"Maria Kalinowski is the creative force behind Kanvas, a new division of Benartex which features novelty prints and more. If you’ve been in the fabric world, chances are you are already familiar with Maria. For the past 14 years, her fabric prints have delighted collectors, manufacturers and designers. From food, to race cars to rock stars, Maria’s eye for subject and color has provided quilt shops some of the most unique and best-loved prints in the industry. 9/17/17 - Hurricane Pillowcase-a-thon @ Britt's

Welcome to a Special Edition of the Nimble Thimbles News!!! Today our group held a special Sew Day in reaction to Missouri Star Quilt Company's Pillowcase Drive for Hurricane victims.  Five quilters met at Britt's house for a Pillowcase-a-thon.

Gayle led the "workshop" based on a MSQC video tutorial.
Between the "teacher" and her four "students, we made seventeen pillowcases!!

Two came in the mail:

Ruth S. made them:

Gayle had hers cut and ready to sew:

Candy sent donation fabric which we paired up:

Joy brought these from her big donation bin:

Britt was happy to learn a new-to-her technique:

Ruth B. used some of Cheryl K's donation fabric:

Gayle demonstrated the "sausage" pillowcase technique:

She's thrilled that it is SEW easy:

Armed with matched fabric, Joy got busy sewing:

Britt chose some beautiful fabrics from her stash:

The "tube" is going through the machine:

Ruth B. is pleased to be using a borrowed machine, as hers is heavy, as well as currently in storage:

Linda arrived and got right to work:

Joy's first pillowcase is done:

Britt is starting the tube turning process:

Joy starts on her 2nd pillowcase:

Ruth B. has one done...

... And she THOUGHT she could get away without having her picture made!  NOT:

Linda is enthralled by the magic of the tube turning:

"Teacher" Gayle is an overachiever with FOUR completed cases:

Joy with her 2nd case of the day:

Linda pins carefully:

Margaret stopped by with a couple of pillowcases:

Ruth B. is somewhere behind this pillowcase:

Oh! There she is:

Candy stopped by with FOUR pillowcases and dessert:

Joy finished case number three...

... Along with its fraternal twin:

Three sets remained at the end of the day:

Eight cases were mailed or dropped off:

What a productive day:

The completed pillowcase stack is about 12" tall:

Special thanks to Britt for opening her home to host this event.  It was SEW much fun!!  Better still, we were pleased to be helping others.

Until next time...
