1/20 - NT Sew Day @ Family House

Welcome to the January meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  This month, ten members met at SECU Family House for a Sew Day.  Thank you to our co-hosts, Ruth B. and Linda!  Thanks to everyone who contributed to our feast.

Happy Birthday to the Birthday Buddies!  These three ladies celebrate only days apart:

Show and Tell was interspersed throughout the day's event...

Carol started us off with this baby quilt:

Here's a look at this interesting design (MSQC?) close up:

We also need to get a look at what everyone is working on...

Gayle spent the day trimming up HSTs:

Candy is thrilled with her new Triangle Tool from Deb Tucker:

Carol did some cutting to end up with HSTs:

Margaret is making a new quilt:

She tried two different sizes...

... After her first sample block:

Margaret is using this pattern, but not the pictured layout:

Britt brought her niece's quilt for a border consult:

She tried Candy's diamond-in-a-rectangle blocks on for size:

Ruth S. brought some cutting to do for a new quilt:

Linda cut some binding strips:

Ruth B. familiarized herself with her "travel" machine:

This is Candy's next quilt:

Helena sported her Nimble Thimbles T-shirt:

Look!  One of Joy's Quilted Thread Catchers was hard at work:

Gayle showed off the quilt that she just quilted for Linda:

Here's a closer look of the quilt with its maker:

Joy showed off her recently completed Trail Totes...

... And a client quilt "hot off the frame" which needs binding:

Margaret quilted this Table Topper:

Gayle just finished quilting this quilt for Candy:

Here they are together with Candy's new Couch Cuddle Quilt:

Here's a closer look, but still not close enough to see the quilting:

The backing came from Candy's own fabric stash:

Helena worked on switching out some buttons on a shirt:

Linda applied binding to her newly returned quilt:

Take special note of Linda's method for managing the large roll of prepared binding fabric (shown above!!!)

Margaret shared her completed Linked Up quilt:

Helena used the "design floor" to lay out a set of Jacob's Ladder blocks that she is hoping to stitch into a quilt top:

Here is a full frontal view of this first option...

... But what happens if she sets them on point???

Here is what that looks like... NOT the preferred layout:

Joy finished one last Trail Tote:

She also quilted a Mug Rug:

Ruth B. also had some cutting to do:

Gayle continued to trim up HSTs:

Margaret pressed her newly sewn block units:

When Carol tired of cutting, she switched to her knitting project:

Helena continued to concentrate on her button project:

Carol is knitting a baby blanket for her daughter's friend:

Don't burn your fingers on those tiny pieces, Joy!!

Thanks to Candy, Joy auditioned some binding options...

Too dark:

Too pink:

For those who are wondering what the outcome was...  JoAnn Fabrics had one that was close enough to right:

Thank you to SECU Family house, for allowing us to hold our meeting in your beautiful board room.  It's SEW perfect for our semi-annual gatherings!

Until next time...
A Sew Day is a GOOD day!!!

1/18 - CCLQ @ Ruth S's... Or NOT!!!

Welcome to the second Virtual Quilt Bee meeting of 2018 for the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  This SHOULD have been our third meeting of the year, but the weather had other ideas.  Thank you to Ruth S. for volunteering to host.  Rest assured, everyone would rather have been at your house than home shoveling snow!

The email trail went like this...

Our hostess wrote on Tuesday morning:

We will meet at Ruth S's home on Thursday. I will track weather and road conditions as we get closer to then.

By Wednesday afternoon, she was humming a different tune:

Beautiful outside but not looking too good for tomorrow.

Evening rolled around and we received the following email:

I think it best if we cancel tomorrow's bee and look forward to Saturday at Family House.
Sleep in!

This was immediately followed by an email from Joy:

Agreed!! Send photos to Joy for our 2nd Virtual Quilt Bee of the year.

Thursday morning rolled around and the photos started filing in...

Gayle started us off with this kit from Craftsy:

Dee Dee made two blocks for the Thomas Fire block drive:

She also made more Bowl Cozies in various sizes:

Britt was inspired by Dee Dee and made this:

Linda chimed in.  She's hoping to get inspired to do some sewing later today.  (Looking forward to seeing how she chose to occupy her Snow Day.)

Joy shared her Thomas Fire block...

... And a mug rug that she is working on for a friend.  Sorry, Gayle!!  This one is NOT for you:

Candy sent this photo...

And later, sent this one of an Orphan Block turned pillow:

We heard from others as the day progressed.  Here are the additional pictures from...

Ruth S. made some charity blocks and worked on an applique:

Cheryl K. had a TELL - She has made ALL of the Hunters Star blocks for the Checkmate design that she's making. (Hooray, Cheryl!!)

Gayle made some charity blocks:

Joanna reported that she is working on several things - including tax training and keeping her DH out of trouble!  She has made 2 Thomas Fire blocks and hopes to share photos soon.

Jean was without power for most of the day.  Brrr!!!  She has made 5 blocks for the Thomas Fire block drive.  The Beatles Quilt has also been completed.  Jean will be mailing it off, but she got some good pictures to share.

It started out like this...

... And finished up like this:

Sorry about the fuzzy photo, Jean!  It didn't transfer properly.

Her Embroidery Class has been postponed to Saturday, so she won't be attending the Sew Day at Family House.

I'm hoping that I captured everything. If not, please send your photo in a separate email and I'll add it in.  Thanks!

Until next time...
Stay warm!!!
