5/30/19: CCLQ at Joanna’s

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters. This week, eight quilters met at Joanna’s home.  A big thank you to Joy for organizing and adding text to the blog post!

Alas, Joy had to leave early so things may appear out of order to those in attendance.  For the rest of us, it's all good!

... Had a surprise for Joy!!  Dee Dee won this cute sewing machine fabric, but hasn't used it.  She thought it might be a good lining for one of Joy's quilted baskets:

5/23/19: CCLQ at Deborah’s

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week nine quilters met at Deborah’s home.  Deborah's sister called during the meeting and let the group know that there's a new quilt shop in Pinehurst called Off Quilter. There was talk of a mini "shop hop" to Sanford and then Pinehurst to explore!

Here's Margaret's delightful Dash quilt.  She made it as a gift for her niece's baby.

Deborah gave DeeDee some bird fabric with complimentary fabrics for her birthday last year.  They decided to challenge each other to use that fabric by a given time.  So here's the reveal!

DeeDee had the pattern for this awesome table topper and was able to creatively use all of the fabrics! 

Deborah wanted the birds to appear in a tree like scene, so purchased this pattern online called Palma. This pattern was shown using solids and looked sort of modern, but Deborah decided to use prints to see how it would be.  It was fun sewing curves.  Deborah used Jacquie Gering walking foot method for quilting.

Jean made this cross body bag for the owner of Pineapple Fabrics as a thank you.  Pineapple has donated lots of fabric for DOQ's donation quilt program.

Jean showed this lovely block.  The technique involves black line embroidery and then painting with textile paints.

Deborah pulled a quilting marathon and finished quilting the Hungry Animals quilt for her granddaughter!  She worked on the binding on today. 

Gayle was happy to model this lovely necklace made by a friend.

Ella reported that she made fourteen quilt labels to sew onto quilts made by her grandmother and by her husband's mom. 

Candy recently went to Greensboro and found Calla Lily quilt shop!  She highly recommends this shop.  Did you know Calla Lily bought lots of shelves from Thimble Pleasures when they closed?

Joanna has 60x60 quilt to finish.  She wants to make it 60x72. 

Here's Joanna's wonderful quilt.  She plans to take the white border off and try possibly a green border.

5/16/19: CCLQ at Ruth B's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week 11.5 quilters met at Ruth B's home.  Enjoy seeing the beautiful work created by this group.  Today Ruth B shared her quilt history. 

Take a look at Ruth B's wonderful first quilt.  Ruth said she took a quilting class at the Cotton Boll Fabric Shop which was located on Elliot Road in Chapel Hill near Whole Foods. 

Ruth made this stunning second quilt (with a three dimensional effect) from a class at Thimble Pleasures Quilt Shop. 

Ruth's third quilt was this lovely Christmas Tree Quilt. 

This flag quilt was another early quilt made by Ruth.  She saw the pattern for this on Alex Anderson's quilt show on TV. 

Here's one of Ruth's more recent quilts called "Twirling in Reverse." It is made of reproduction antique fabric, some from Mary Jo's Fabric Shop. It's almost done and she plans to hang it over her fireplace. 

DeeDee finished all the blocks for this terrific tulip quilt and she asked for advice from the group on the layout. The group had fun rearranging the tulip garden.  Can't wait to see how it looks with stripping and border!

Ella finished quilt using a binding tool.  We will see that quilt soon!

Margaret finished this wonderful donation quilt. 

She had fun using free motion quilting on her domestic machine.  

Margaret added a decorative stitch on the binding.  Cool idea Margaret!

Margaret made these cool coasters using a folding technique.

Gayle worked on the binding for a donation quilt.  She is making a quilt for her son.  It's on her design wall, so we should see it soon. 

Joy had to leave early but reported that she delivered two long arm machine quilted quilts and is working on a donation quilt. One customer picked up a quilt and also brought another quilt top to be quilted.

Margaret showed the fabric that Jean will embroider a runner on.  Stay tuned for a future blog to see the runner on this fabric. 

Lynda was busy embroidering blocks for her third Sue Spargo quilt.

Jean created some lovely embroidery florals to use for greeting cards.

Jean saved these labels from the silk tie quilt.  Hmm...can't wait to see what creative idea Jean comes up with for these. 

Deborah completed this quilt top for her granddaughter's birthday.  She will add a piano key border, quilt it, bind it and have it ready by next Friday!  

Cheryl hasn't done any quilting lately but has been making some silk eye covers for sleeping on a plane.
