3/12/16 - NT @ Candy's

Welcome to the March meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  Ten members met at Candy's house for engaging (quilty) conversation, yummy food, and, of course...

{A bit of business...}

Members, read carefully!!  Mary Jo's Trip is coming up on Saturday, April 9th.  We currently have 2 drivers (Thanks, Britt and Linda!) and Candy will meet us there.  There appear to be 4 yeses and 4 maybes.  Please contact Joy, if you hope to go on the trip.  Also let her know if you would be willing to drive, as we may have other members who hope to go on the trip.  Thanks!

Calendar news!!  Candy has requested the Family House Solarium for a UFO Sew-In scheduled for May 21st or August 20th.  Once we know which date we can have the room, Ella will plan to host a meeting on the alternate date.  We also planned a tentative schedule for the remainder of 2016!!! Updates will be made on the BLOG CALENDAR as plans are confirmed.  Keep checking back!

{Show and Tell...}

Candy started us off with a TELL.  Her placemats have been gifted:

And... she will be babysitting her granddaughter half of each week during April.  Then she had a SHOW.  She bought a new book at Thimble Pleasures:

Amamani Puzzle Balls by Dedri Uys (shown above) and #23 Bernina Applique Foot (below):

Linda brought the fabric that she bought at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival for her 2016 Class Quilt...

... I know, right?!?!  It's NOT super hero fabric, but..

It goes PERFECTLY with the student accounting profile that she's using:

Linda also got a pattern and template set at the Quilt Show:

She shared her completed Spotty Leftovers Quilt top:

Dee Dee has made some new Bird Blocks and Britt offered THIS internet link for off-setting blocks:

And brought along her Tumbler quilt (which Ella had a good idea about - turn the quilt to have the solid colored "flower pots" right side up and put a flower in alternating ones.)

Dee Dee also bought some new patterns.  These are from Keepsake... because she couldn't figure out how they were made WITHOUT a pattern:

Joy has added the last 2 rows of O's T-quilt:

Cheryl K. asked for a quilting consult for the Bluff Mystery:

She brought her CCLQ Donation Block:

And...

Worked on the binding of the Green Border Baby Quilt:

Ella didn't have a quilt to show, so she brought one of Barry's (NOT the easy Missouri Star pattern!):

Just LOOK at the BACK:

Ruth S. brought the necklace that she got at the Hampton Show:

Jean shared a photo of her newest "Willie" tote bag:

And... the completed Ramses Quilt:

Jean found THIS pattern using hexagons and triangles for her batiks and hand dyes:

She wondered if the pattern was made with inset seams.  Margaret said NO and drew out the construction for Jean.  (Thanks, Margaret!!)

Speaking of Margaret...

She has been busy working of quilt bindings while recovering from her hip surgery...

Pegs was a $70 kit from Keepsake.  Cheryl B. quilted it:

Slice and Dice donation project from a kit at DOQ Sit and Stitch.  Blocks by Jean Wright.  Top assembled by Margaret.  Quilted by Bo Herman.  The binding was applied by Joy with the hope that Margaret could use some hand work during her convalescence:

Another Slice and Dice kit.  Blocks by Jean Wright.  Top by Margaret.  Quilted by Bo Herman and binding applied by Joy and sewn down by Margaret after she was able to get around a bit:

Britt brought her fabric purchased at Hampton and she's already used some...

...  In her amazing Indigo Challenge Quilt for Art Bee:

Here's a close-up of View Across Indigo Lake made using techniques found on THIS BLOG:

Just LOOK at the quilting she did:

Jean passed around her phone one way...

...  While Britt's was coming around the other way to share her newly organized fabric/WIP armoire:

While searching her stash, Candy found some silks from India that she bought in 1969:

Aren't they beautiful?!?!

Joy suggested that Jean make something for Candy like she did for Ella.  Candy said that she could never wear the shirt that Jean just made.  So Joy said that they should go try it!!  Here is the swap:

Noting a few alterations, she was proven wrong and then they switched back to their own clothes:

If you weren't here, please know that you were missed and we hope to see you next time.  Here's a shopping tip from Cheryl K:

FashionFabricsClub.com for silks, rayons, and blends at good prices.  $5.25/yard!!!

Until then...
Keep Quilting!!!
