10/20/18 - NT @ SECU Family House

Welcome to the October meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  10 members met at the SECU Family House for a Sew Day.  That is 3 down from the number we were expecting.  Here's hoping everyone is doing OK!

Those of us who were planning to make Jean's Crossbody Bag today, got busy cutting (since that was SUPPOSED to be done before we arrived.)  Oops!

Britt chose the print for her main fabric:

Candy cut pieces for another set of Magical Mystery blocks.  Guess who got the scraps?  Here's a hint... It's our very own Scrap Queen:

Jean shared this photo of the 100 kits that she has cut and ready for her Family House Quilting Class:

Here's a bag that's all ready for the Holidays:

The 2nd time a guest comes to sew they get to choose a custom design which is then stitched out by Jean:

These are the "loops" or "tabs" ready for sewing into the bag to hold the ribbon straps:

Lynda did some design work, determining which squares will be sewn into blocks:

Helena enjoyed spending time with her quilting friends, but was too tired to sew:

Linda examined Jean's Crossbody Bag pattern, but another project kept her busy:

This is a (self-trimmed) pocket, ready to be turned:

This sample is ready for zipper insertion:

Jean demonstrates pocket placement:

The trick to keeping the ribbon loop in place for stitching?  Double-sided tape:

French seams give the bag a clean finish:

Viola!  A fully finished bag:

Joy spent some time sewing scraps for a new fabric basket:

Candy and Britt work on their Crossbody Bags, as Jean answers questions:

Linda got a good amount of the binding done on her most recent baby quilt:

Joy tested a blue border for this beautiful design stitched by Jean:

The RSC Color of the Month, Dark GREEN, won the popular vote:

Ruth B. prepared to start her own Crossbody Bag:

Britt installs the zipper:

With squares matched up, Lynda brought out her applique project:

Dee Dee stopped by for a brief visit after finishing her errands:

Ruth B came by to have lunch with everyone:

Britt's bag just needs its ribbon strap:

Members who went to CCLQ @ The Bluff presented Ruth S with a token of our appreciation for all of her hard work in making the retreat SEW relaxing and fun at the same time:

One of Jean's Family House students who refused to stick with just TWO quilting classes:

The proud teacher joined in for another photo:

Candy brought along her newly completed B9P quilt top:

She found the PERFECT backing fabric on a recent trip to Pineapple Fabrics:

Ruth B also found backing fabric for her B9P:

Here's a closer look:

Candy completed her Crossbody Bag:

Joy is  getting ready to put the finishing touches on her bag:

Joy's bag is DONE, thanks to Helena for sharing her light green accent fabric for the pocket, as I was stuck for just the right piece:

Here's a closer (upside down) look at it:

Special thanks to Jean for sharing her (adapted) pattern with us.  Today's workshop was SEW much fun!!!

Until next time...
Just keep sewing!!!
