 Welcome to the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters weekly zoom meeting. 

Reminder: Next BEE lunch will be 2/24/22 at Hillsborough BBQ after our virtual meeting. 

Ruth announced that the Hillsborough Senior Center will now allow 10 quilters. Several folks in

our group attended on Tuesday. Time: 10am-12.  

DeeDee announced that DOQ needs children’s donation quilts...baby to teen size. Contact Carol Holleman or drop off at Sarah Porecca’s. Give these quilts to anyone in our group that goes to the Tuesday Senior Group.

Deborah: working outside in garden and yard. Started the ironing and cutting for the

Atmosphere Quilt.

Carol: refurbished a heart pillow for Valentines’s Day. Working in garden and also de-cluttering

some in sewing room.

Lynda: working on her “un-begun” quilt . Britt helped with the directions of making half-square

triangles...needs 150 of these tiny blocs. Her son-in-law will build a garden shed for her. Lynda

shared a photo of the shed. Enjoying being outside! 

Cheryl: showed a lovely “Lime Twist” quilt on her design wall. Had some left over green and

blue and will make a donation quilt with that. Also enjoying working outside.

Gayle: Showed the pretty red and white Christmas quilt which she quilted on the diagonal. Got

her truck out of the mud in the backyard. Enjoying working in the yard and getting her vegetable

garden prepared.

Linda H.: enjoying working outside. Plans to visit Candy to get some quilting ideas.

Ella: shared a lovely teal, aqua and pink quilt on her design wall.

Ruth B: Finished the Noah’s ark quilt and will donate this to DOQ. Almost finished with quilting

the elephant quilt. Ruth is making a stitch book with all the stitches on her machine. Family is

coming to visit this weekend!

Candy: finished the Counter Point quilt and Cheryl B will quilt it. Candy is using the left over

triangles from this quilt to make a chevron design.

Ruth S.: enjoyed going to the Tuesday Group and picked up a pattern called “Simple Rail.” Ruth

will make a donation quilt for cancer patients. Finished the alphabet quilt and plans to save it for

a family member’s baby. Donna is coming this weekend.

DeeDee: finished the pink and green quilt and got it over to Britt’s for quilting. Started a table

runner and pulling fabrics for kid’s quilts.

 

Maggie:showed an adorable beach ball row by row from 2015. Shared a new pattern that she plans to

make with plus signs and random flying geese in the sashing.

 

Joy: excited that the rails for her long arm machine are in place...waiting for machine to be set

up.

Welcome to the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters weekly zoom meeting.

Lynda: working on “unbegun” quilt and made 10/12 small stars. 

Plans to start on big stars next week.

DeeDee: delivered the honey bee baby quilt and family loved it! Finished making the blocks for the “unbegun” quilt. Ordered more fabric for borders for the this quilt.

Ella: had a wonderful visit from Debbie this week. Plans to have a quilt project to show next time.

Ruth S: made the quilt from the kit she purchased from Pineapple Fabrics. Shared a funny poem about mammograms.

Gayle: finished quilting the Dresden Plate quilt and got the binding on. Lori Holt appliqué quilt is ready to put together. Working on red and white Christmas quilt. Plans to add pieced borders around each block.

Maggie: Found an NC Quilt pattern at Wish Upon and made a lovely NC quilt . Made a cute

donation quilt with sports fabric. Made a clever “after quilt” for the back. Finished a donation

quilt for DOQ. Making a table runner with hearts.

Candy: working on sewing long vertical sashing between rows on Counter Point quilt project.  She shared distressing news of her daughter getting hit.  Good thing it was in front of the driver door,  thank goodness she is okay.

 

 

Ruth B: Working on Noah’s Ark quilt and started quilting the elephant baby quilt.

Britt: Quilted the Plus Quilt with a curvy new panto.

Deborah: tried making an “after quilt” for the Fizz quilt. 

Sewed several left over curvy blocks together and they looked like a giant blob. 

Took that apart and made a simpler back with 5 large circles.

Britt shared her plan on a new "Old" pattern from Bonnie Hunters 2016 leader-ender hour glass scraps that will be part of the Ravelry's "Unbegun Challenge".  So this is kind of 2 challenges in one.  See below at the end of this post for a NT take on this idea ... Britt could even triple up on one project to fill 3 challenges.  This put the UFO challenge into a backseat for now with 4 un-quilted tops still hanging in the closet .... they take up less room that way right?  Way to always look on the bright side Britt.

Carol was inspired by Britt's Kisses quilt to use up some her scraps the same way and has started on these cute little nine-patch blocks.  

Carols Grandson got a vintage Gibson guitar and asked her to make a strap to replace the one he had.  She used the existing one as a template (2"x60" with fusible fleece) and hardware from another to make this one.  With quilting thread colors on to match the guitar and a geometric design.  She found a video on Man Sew that helped.

Lynda is taking it easy waiting to get backup to 100% to finish up working on 2 quilts.

Candy revised the quilting on her latest hexagon table topper and used a zig-zag stitch in the center and point to point quilting towards the edges before doing a pillow case technique to finish this topper.  She then shared her purchases from recent trip with Ruth S. to Pineapple.

This pattern could be Candy's Unbegun Challenge now that she has the brown and blue fabrics.

Maggie has nothing completed but worked on Lemoyne Stars and the Macaroon Mystery.  Plans to start on Table Scrap Challenge for January (Red/Snowmen) using a Cut Loose Press pattern found the red fabric after the meeting.

Cheryl had no show but told about finished wall hanging and table runner but the big news is automotive ... new vehicle and new camper.   It will be awhile before they are able to pick up the camper in Texas but look out after they are hooked up.  Bird Watchers beware.

Deborah is going with the "Just Get is Done Challenge" by Karen Brown  (Link) working with the left over pieces to this Amanda Murphy pattern.  The first quilt was 50x72 which produced a lot of cut off pieces when you had to resize the squares to get the "flow" design.  So with the left over blocks she has started her design for the using up the cut-offs.  Everyone on the call liked the philosophy from Just get it done to work on a task for 30 minutes at a time to make progress towards getting it finished.  

"Sure we can do anything for 30 minutes ..."  

 

Ruth S.  shared her Pineapple purchases from baby fabric, Christmas jellyroll, and table runner.  The runner is for her sister to replace the one she made years back that has gotten a bit faded.

Ruth is making this fox block into a pillow for a Bluff friend who has a history with foxes.

Gayle finished binding the first Baby Quilt and has sail boat fabric ready to start on the 2nd one.

Also she made a little travel drawstring bag with some lovely colorful strips. 

Gayle finished quilting the Dresden plate quilt and found royal blue fabric for the binding that matched the Irish chain squares.   

Dee Dee is working with a Moda Layer cake and a pattern that is called Double Slice ( Video Link ) from Missouri Start.

The design wall is sporting 9" squares of browns, blues, and greens that is destined to be a Bunk-Bed donation.  The Goal for the year is the use up fabric and make 1 donation quilt a month.

Nimble Thimble UnBegun Challenge  (copied the description from Ravelry and changed dates)

Here’s how it works:  

Dig thru your stash and find a project for which you bought Most everything - pattern, tools, fabric, notions - but then (for whatever reason) it got set aside in favor of something else. Work on it thru the winter & Spring months and complete by August 1st. Almost all of us have such a project (or more than one!)

This is a little different from the UFO Club. We’re taking SIX (6) MONTHS to complete something that might not even be started yet! 

Starting February 1, 2022 get your Un-begun project identified and share your forgotten project(s) that you would like to finish. Let’s see how many hidden projects we can unearth and complete.
