10-26-23: CCLQ at Gayle’s

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week the quilters met at Gayle’s.

Maggie provided helpful handouts for the upcoming Round Robin.  Next week the bag exchange will begin. A big THANK YOU to Maggie for organizing this Round Robin and providing all the helpful tips and encouragement!

Maggie made this lovely bag with fabric from her selection of  Round Robin fabrics. Each quilter is to create a bag or use a bag you already own to hold the fabric, pattern, and instructions for the quilt blocks.  Folks can also include a journal so quilters can write a note about their fabric selections and creative inspirations.

Maggie provided several helpful suggestions for ways to store the blocks to prevent excessive wrinkles. This is a craft box available from Joann’s Fabric or Walmart.

Maggie made this storage booklet from cardboard and fabric. This is another method of keeping the blocks neatly.

Maggie also shared this adorable Christmas table runner.

Deborah shared her table topper for the craft fair.

Deborah also shared this Halloween wall hanging that she made years ago.

DeeDee shared exciting tales of her trip to Egypt.  She found a quilt shop! The shop had quilts and other handmade crafts made from recycled cotton products. She purchased two lovely bird pillow covers. Below is some information about the the quilt shop.

Carol shared three charming donation quilts.  This is quilt #1.

A very sweet Quilt #3.

Carol reminded folks that the Christmas party will be at her house on Saturday, Dec. 16th.

Candy finished this lovely top for her next quilt.

Candy shared the backing fabric for this quilt which she purchased at Pineapple Fabrics.  Unfortunately after washing many times with color catchers, this fabric continued to bleed. She called Pineapple Fabrics and they suggested using Synthropol with the wash, but that didn’t seem to help.

Gayle completed this beautiful quilt with scalloped borders. Gayle plans to make bias binding for this quilt.

Gayle also has this wonderful orange peel block on her design wall.  The orange peels are bordered in rick rack.  Gayle calls this quilt, “X’s and O’s.”

Until next time, sew happy, sew often.

Lynda has had this machine over 60 years!  She took it apart, oiled and did all the necessary tune ups but to no avail. Britt has offered to take a look and she can’t fix it,  the machine will go for repairs. Lynda purchased a new Tilda book and will bring it next week.

In preparation for the Round Robin, Maggie made a fabric covered cardboard storage booklet for the finished blocks.

Maggie shared another idea of using a pool noodle to roll up the blocks to keep them from getting wrinkles.

Maggie gave Linda some Thirties fabrics!

10/19/2023 CCLQ @ Candy's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.   Busy schedules and general life resulted in a small group of 3 at Candy’s but still had lots to talk about and ideas to share.

Cheryl started off by showing some donation trivets that will go to the "Tuesday Group" for the Senior Center Holiday Craft Fair scheduled for December 9th from 9am to 2pm.

Next she showed her 2nd quilt made from the lovely printed birds.  This one is being donated and the other will remain with her.

Maggie has 3 donation baby quilts that are for the next 3 weeks.  Count down is on to finish up this year long challenge of 1 a week.

Our hostest had quite the tell about a wonderful printed wideback.  As she always does this piece of fabric was prewashed a number of times and it continues to bleed and turn the color catches blue.  After calling Pineapple to ask if they knew anything about it ... they suggested

After calling Pineapple to ask if they knew anything about it ... they suggested Syntrapol.

If the backing ever stops running this is the top that it will be quilted with.

Candy went through her photo albums after last week's talk about the chicken that kept trying to bite her when she was training for the Peace Corps.

Along with the infamous chicken photo she also has "fond" memories of the large scorpions that were a part of her Peace Corps experience.

That's it for this week.  Sew on and don't let the scorpions sting.
