4/23/15 - CCLQ @ Ruth S. {Bluff Season Approaches}

It was a bittersweet day at Ruth S.'s house.  It's her LAST meeting before heading to The Bluff for the summer.  :o((

With heavy hearts, 7 members continued to work on our projects and shared some of the things that have kept us busy during the past week...

Joanna showed this bag at the beginning of the meeting:

Here's the inside of Joanna's new bag.  There's a pocket for everything:

Deborah worked on cutting HSTs during the meeting:

And... brought the fabrics that she is using in her Lady of the Lake quilt:

Jean was knitting on her Circle Vest... she's ALMOST done:

Just look how fast her hands are moving!!

Candy sewed binding down on the Cat Donation Quilt which may turn out to be for the Animal Rescue Auction instead of one of the other organizations that our Guild supplies with quilts:

Ella stitched on the binding of her Blue and Yellow quilt:

Ruth S. took notes regarding the CCLQ retreat at The Bluff:

Ruth B. knit some on her scarf and chatted with friends:

Joy showed off her 2 completed T-shirt quilts along with the 1 that is nearly done and knit on her tube scarf.  What you can't see in the first photo... is the shock and amazement that we all felt when the ceramic cat (from the top of the hutch) fell and was caught (unbroken) by Jean's bag (sitting on the chair just out of view):

T1 (Jacob's Quilt) 70" x 99"

T3 (R.W.'s Gift Quilt) 40" x  60"

Dee Dee texted a picture of her Flamingo Quilt from its new home.  We missed you (and there was no one to tell us when it was time to go to lunch!):

Ruth S. shared the poem that she wrote to go with the iSpy Donation Quilt that she bound:

And... At the end of the meeting, Joanna had just finished the hemming on this blouse:

Joanna requested the inclusion of the following photo just for Dee Dee, who always thinks it's cold at Ruth S.'s house...  NOT today.  See!! Someone was even comfortable wearing a tank top:

Until next time...
Enjoy Spring!!!

4/16/15 - CCLQ @ Cheryl K.'s

Today we met at Cheryl K.'s house for another morning of Sew. Eat. Gab... and don't forget the fuel for out stitches...  COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :o))

Here are some shots of the projects from our busy hands...

We started off with Joanna's newest quilt:

Then I caught a glimpse of a pattern in a box:

It turned out to be a Lady of the Lake pattern for a quilt that Deborah is experimenting with:

Ella's ONLY purchase at Mary Jo's (besides the photo transfer stuff):

Candy was working on Mug Rugs for hostess gifts:

Ella was busy binding a quilt, got distracted from her work:

LOOK at Gayle's new Donation Quilt:

Dee Dee worked on "de-boning" men's shirts from the thrift store:

Cheryl K. finished quilting her nautical themed baby quilt:

Here's a shot of the back of the quilt.  The lighter blue is a really cute wave print:

Cheryl showed us the fabrics she found to go with her Asian themed print:

She also made some decisions about her black crane print fabric:

And her red crane print fabric:

Joy was busy cutting up scraps:

Gayle worked on sewing the binding down on her new Donation Quilt:

Ruth S. sewed binding on this cute Donation Quilt and is writing an I Spy poem for the back:

This adorable cat quilt is Candy's next Donation Quilt project (binding ONLY):

Ruth B. knit a few stitches on her scarf and enjoyed chatting with Ruth S. and others:

Once upon a time, Ruth B. went to Houston and found a pattern (that she didn't buy.)  Feeling the need to clarify what size pieces to cut, she ordered the pattern online:

And then she went to Mary Jo's, where she spent TWO HOURS in ONE ROW!!!  The next photo shows the fabric that she bought:

Joanna did some more work on her stitching project:

And then we were off to The Root Cellar (formerly Foster's Market of Chapel Hill) for lunch... dining in good company (with mixed reviews on our menu selections.)

Until next time...
Keep calm and quilt on!!!!!!

4/11/15 - NT's Annual Field Trip to Mary Jo's

Bright and early on Saturday morning, 9 quilters met for Nimble Thimbles' annual field trip to Long Creek Mills ("The Thread Store") and Mary Jo's Fabric Store in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Would you like a bit of advice???

No??  Too bad!  Here it is, anyway:

If you've never been...

BE SURE TO TAKE A LIST!!!

It's a BIG store and can be a bit overwhelming to "newbies."

Overwhelming, but AWESOME!!!  :o))

Everyone had a FABULOUS time!  I wonder who spent the most???  Inquiring minds want to know!!

Our blog correspondent, Jean, made sure to get a group picture of the looters (...er... shoppers):

Here's a photo from the bench just outside the door to Mary Jo's:

TOO FUNNY!!!  I suppose that means they're NOT telling who spent the most!!!  LOL

NOTE:  Special thanks to our roving photographer... Jean... (since the blog editor wasn't able to be "on the scene" during this year's excursion.)

Until next time...
Shop Happy!!!

4/9/15 - CCLQ @ Deborah's

Seven members met for a morning of handwork, chatting, and delicious treats.  Most were busy working. Here are some pictures so that YOU can (almost) feel a part of the action...

Gayle's most recent Donation Quilt:

And a close-up of the adorable owls and awesome (orange) quilting:

Ella's first foray into SCRAPPY!!! Dee Dee and Joanna had encouraged her to try.  Just look at her successful attempt:

Linda's 2015 Class Quilt:

And a close-up of the title block:

Ella was appliqueing:

Joanna was stitching:

Here's a completed "corner" of Deborah's hand-quilting project:

Gayle sat beneath a new Donation Quilt, binding away:

Ruth S. refused a picture... so I shot one from across the room.  :P

Ruth B. knit a few more rows on her Autumn Colors scarf. Looking GOOD, Ruth!!

Joy documented the day's work... while she attempted to figure out where she was in her current knitting project "The Mystery of the Traveling Scarf" by Threebagsfulled (on Ravelry):

Joanna showed us a new pattern that she was trying to figure out:

Along with some (unfinished) Zentangle pieces that she is working on for a class:

Linda was with us this week and brought an iPad picturedof the Plus Quilt that she made for her sister.  (Probably her fastest project ever, start to finish!!) Hooray! for Spring Break.  :o))

Look at the pretty quilt in the May/June issue of Quiltmaker Magazine:

11:30 came and we all cleaned up our projects to head out to Fiesta Grill for lunch.  A few of us have errands, etc. leaving the headcount at 5.

Until next time...
Keep quilting!!!
