7/30/15 - CCLQ @ Cheryl K.'s

This week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters was held at the home of Cheryl K.  Ten quilters gathered for aromatic coffee and delicious treats.  The Blueberry Peach Cobbler was fresh, but what we really came for was the QUILTING!!!

Here is the work of our hands...

Dee Dee worked on binding a Soldier Quilt:

Gayle brought a Donation Quilt to bind...

Let's see what's on the back:

Here's the backing fabric that Deborah gave her.  Everyone agreed that it was PERFECT for this quilt:

... And another Donation Quilt to show... Or start the binding is she was REALLY productive:

This is the last of the triangles that Deborah needs to cut:

Ruth is working on squaring up her little Pinwheel Blocks:

Candy's Scrappy Geese Quilt turned out to be not so scrappy after all:

Ella and Joanna waited for their turn at Show and Tell:

HERE is Ella's FIRST EVER attempt at paper-piecing:

THIS is what her quilt will look like when she uses "real" fabric, as opposed to scraps:

Joanna was organizing some of her patterns:

Candy made some Mug Rugs with her leftover Flying Geese units...

... But, was busy sewing a hanging sleeve on her Paula Nadelstern Quilt:

Cheryl found some fabric to go with a collection that she has for a new Baby Quilt... Only to realize that the colors are right, but the fabric that she chose is covered in Christmas Trees and Cookies!!!

While cleaning, she found a LARGE bag with a broken zipper.  She plans to remake it into a more usable size:

After her turn at Show and Tell, Cheryl got back to binding her most recent Baby Quilt:

Joy showed off the new book that she WON in a giveaway on Crazy Mom Quilts...

Along with the quilt top that she made from the Layer Cake that she won as part of the Grand Prize Drawing at the Happy Quilting Blog:

She asked if anyone might have some fabric for a border and Candy thought that she might.  Thanks, Candy!

Jean was busy stitching on a Mouse Costume for the Carolina Ballet:

Dee Dee's timer went off and eight of us adjourned to Rasa Indi-Chinese for lunch.  They have the MOST amazing Lentil Soup on earth.  Candy liked it (and she doesn't even LIKE lentil soup!!)

Until next time...
Just keep quilting!!!

7/28/15 - NT Nights @ H-boro Library

Tonight was the monthly meeting of the Nimble Thimbles' Night Group.  Five members gathered at the Hillsborough library for an evening of quilting fun.

Sorry, Margaret, for the false alarm!  HERE is the working picture, along with the shots of your fabulous bags:

The gigunda one:

The one for the lake:

And... the one for the beach:

I found the photo Joy's completed Layer Cake Quilt top.  Apparently, the WERE among those on my phone.  I was quite disturbed by the thought of them missing and couldn't imagine what happened to them.  Silly operator error!  :o((

You can see Margaret working on her quilt binding  on the RIGHT and Joy's trimmings on the LEFT in THIS picture.  Annelise is just beginning to mark her quilting design:

And here is a shot of our newest NT Nights member, Annelise, marking her Improv Baby Quilt for quilting.  It's a unique quilt for a baby with a unique name, but don't ask me to spell it:

I'm sure you would like a better look:

Speaking of looks, LOOK who made it to TWO meetings in a row:

Cheryl B. brought along her applique project:

This is what her quilt will ultimately look like:

This photo shows another view of Cheryl's work and the magazine holding the pattern:

Another Donation Quilt from Jill:

Lots of scraps in this one (and look at the spaces for applique!)  She's still deciding what to do about that, but she completed the binding tonight:

This little bunny may be Jill's next project.  She gets many of her designs from coloring books:

Here is Margaret's Batik Jewel Quilt:

A close-up of the blocks:

And a shot of how the corners meet (with the additional row of HSTs that Margaret added):

Britt left one of her Tiny Nines at Cheryl's Quilt Studio.  Joy is now holding it hostage until she comes over to sew:

Until next time...
Go quilt!!!

7/23/15 - CCLQ @ Joy's

Today's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters was at Joy's house.  It was nearly 9:30.  The biscuits were out of the oven and the coffee was on...

WHEN THE SKIES OPENED UP!!!  Literally.  Seven members sat stranded in their cars, waiting for a break in the rain.

By 9:45, people began to brave the elements... and by 10 AM the rain had STOPPED.

What IS IT with Joy's house and rain?!?!  (Last time or the time before, we all waited out a storm before leaving for lunch.)

Too bad we didn't get a picture of all of the shoes on a towel by the door.  LOL

Once everyone settled down, was dried off, fed, and coffee'd we had a fair amount of shown and tell, along with shots of what everyone was working on...

Jean turned THIS Egyptian Cotton fabric:

Into THIS hand-dyed bag for a friend:

After showing the bag she made, Jean worked on the binding of her latest Kitchen Quilt:

Deborah's applied the label on her Generations Quilt:

The label credits 3 generations of Deborah's family with the portion of the quilt they contributed:

HERE is a full (ish) shot of the beautiful Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt:

Dee Dee sewed a bit more of the binding on Harbor's Quilt:

Cheryl K. worked on the binding on a Baby Quilt:

Ella stitched on a new floral applique panel:

Here's the panel:

Ruth was busy knitting on her scarf:

Even though Candy wasn't with us today, we got to see the next quilt that she will be binding.  I believe that Sarah P. made it for a donation:

Gayle prepared to do battle with the binding on her latest Donation Quilt:

And took a stab at it:

Her quilt was made from a recently released tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company:

And HERE is a closer shot.  While not close enough to see the quilting, it shows a better view of the blocks that Gayle used:

Deborah made a Busy Book for her Grandson's 1st birthday out of a quilt panel:

Here's a look at the first page, of the story that she modeled after Brown Bear, Brown Bear(, What Do You See? written by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle):

The MOST IMPORTANT page (to us)...

And what will likely be her grandson's FAVORITE page:

You may not fully appreciate this gift until you get a load of this side view!!

Just what WAS Joanna doing?!?!

She brought paper cut-outs to play with during the meeting:

Her X-acto knife and a ruler came along for the ride:

It turns out that after all of the manipulation, Joanna is left with beautiful bird ornaments:

Cheryl K. tried the quilting method that Jean talked about when we were at her house:

On this Baby Quilt that she recently made:

Joy FINALLY remembered to dig out the Mystery Quilt for our Retreat.  All CCLQ members are welcome to participate.  Details to follow, but for now... The instruction folders are ready:

Oh!!!  Don't forget to grab some of Rick's (organically grown) "free-range" cucumbers on your way out the door!!  (Jean is just about cucumbered out.)  They are fresh from the garden and ready to eat:

Once the meeting adjourned, 5 of us took ourselves off to lunch.  Today's choice??  HBBQ.

Take a look at the adorable shirt (made lumpy by the wearer) that Joy got from Sew Caroline.  Alas, the sewing machine shirts may no longer be available, but the totes (in the same design) still are:

Until next time...
Weather the storms of life with a quilting buddy by your side!!!
