3/19/20 - CCLQ @ Zoom!! - Week 1

Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  My how quickly things change in the span of a few days.  We were scheduled to be at Ruth B's today, but in the midst of the current health crisis, Deborah scheduled us for a Zoom conference online.  Thank you for coordinating a virtual meeting for those of us who were able to attend!

There were 12 members in attendance.  Deborah reported that it was a wonderful meeting!  She said that it was great to see everyone and keep that quilt inspiration going.  She will provide the membership with a Zoom update in an email.

In addition to the Zoom meeting, members were asked to send photos to Joy for inclusion in our weekly blog posts.  She offered to publish during her Corona-cation, beginning today.

Candy also had a TELL - SECU Family House has postponed the Volunteer Brunch until Fall.

Cheryl B. is enlarging her long term applique project.  She is now using Stable Stuff by Ricky Tims and will speed the process by sewing the pieces down on her machine:

Gayle finished a new acrylic painting:

Jean also had a TELL - She believes that we may need more donation quilts.  To that end, Dee Dee suggested that we create a list of what we have in terms of what size and for whom, for example: twin size for girl, baby quilt for boy, etc.

... And is happy to report that the rails (of the longarm) are now ready for its next challenge.  I'm sure you'll see this completed quilt (in full) once Ruth S. has attached and sewn down the binding:


Dee Dee has been working on some paper-pieced practice blocks and is currently checking her stash for blue batiks for the REAL ones to be incorporated into a special gift:



Maggie completed the top of Blue and More Blue...



... And this Bunk Bed quilt made from a Pineapple Scrap Bag:


Maggie reports that this is her LAST homespun quilt!!  She is done with them.  This one measures 50 x 60" for the VA Hospice:


She also had a TELL - The AQS Workshop in PA has been canceled.

3/14/20 - NT @ Candy's (and Virtual Bee)

Welcome to the March meeting of the Nimble Thimble Quilt Bee!!  Thank you to Candy for opening her home to the hard core quilters among us!  I'm sure there are also thank yous that need to be expressed for those who brought items to round out the meal.  Those of us who missed the meeting were sure to have missed out on some tasty treats!

Business:

There was a long discussion about how to proceed with regard to COVID-19 and future meeting.  For now, the 20 or less guideline is in place and is being followed.  FIVE members were in attendance.

Show and Tell:

LIVE BEE for those who braved the current health scare...

Linda joyfully said there was one good thing about the sporting being events canceled.  Virginia will remain champions for this season.  She proudly displayed her shirt:

No other photos were received.  Candy, Carol, Linda, Ruth B. and Kirsten enjoyed their time together (away from the camera's lens.)

3/12/2020: CCLQ at Deborah's


Greetings from the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!   On  March 12th eleven quilters met at Deborah's home. This is a special time for friends to get together. In the past few weeks, we spoke only briefly about the COVID-19 virus.  Today our group opened with a longer discussion about what was happening and how we felt about it.  Each week there are more and more restrictions placed on our lives. We were grateful to have a meeting face to face on March 12th.  Who knows if we'll get to meet next week?  Ruth S graciously shared some face masks with everyone in the group.



Cheryl shared this beautiful baby quilt which she finished.
Cheryl  used a serpentine stitch to quilt this colorful quilt. 
Joanna completed two lovely table toppers for SECU Family House Volunteer brunch. 
Joanna made this lovely modern fabric bag. 
Could this be Ella's colorful fabric?  It's next to the Butterfly Quilt.  
Ella is making great progress on her butterfly quilt. 
Ella created her own pattern for the appliqué butterflies.

Ella shared this wonderful disappearing four patch block.  Click here to find directions for making this block.  Ella suggested that we have a sew day to make some quilts using this pattern.  

DeeDee made two wonderful table toppers for the SECU Family House Volunteer Brunch.



DeeDee shared this awesome quilt with a story.  Ruth S started this quilt years ago but didn't finish it.  She gave it to DeeDee who completed it and then Sarah Porreca quilted it.  DeeDee added a jazzy binding. 
DeeDee also worked on cutting a bunch of half square triangle blocks. 
DeeDee shared this photo of her gorgeous new garden gate!

Carol attended a retreat for machine embroidery at  G's Quilt and Craft Retreat Center in Hillsborough, NC. She made this lovely pillow just in time for the season. 
Candy was very happy to receive some dilly pickles from Ruth S. 
Candy showed photos of the wonderful placemats she made for her niece.  
Here's another placemat from Candy.  She used beautiful exotic Indonesian fabric for these. 
Remember the transportation fabric panel Ruth S showed last week?  Wow!  Ruth and her granddaughter made this baby quilt for a neighbor.  It was the first time her granddaughter used the sewing machine!  Everyone was excited that Ruth's granddaughter showed an interested in sewing. What a wonderful project!

Gayle has been busy studying portrait painting online with  Matt Philleo.

Deborah worked on the binding of her Ella donation quilt  and also shared this photo of a quilt  from Bernina World of Sewing in Raleigh. Gayle and Deborah visited Bernina and Wish Upon a Quilt last week to use their DOQ gift cards and found some good sale fabric and thread. We thought Ruth S would like this quilt and she immediately identified it as one of McKenna Ryan's.  The blocks are laser cut. Click on the link to see a closer image of these wonderful blocks. By the way...you can purchase one block at a time. 

Until the next time we're together....I wanted to find some clever words to say.  If we can't meet face to face, we'll find some other way!
