5/26 -Virtual NT Nights

Welcome to the late May meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Nights Quilt Bee!!  The blog editor asked everyone to send photos of what they've been working on.

Here's what was sent in...

Britt completed this lovely abstract landscape quilt:

She has also been entertaining binding options for...

... The reproduction quilt...

... That recently...

... Came off the longarm:

Berries next big task is getting her son's graduation quilt sewn together:

Joy made a mid-sized Quilted Scrap Basket for a friend:

She also tried a new mask pattern...

... (If you read posts from the morning group, you will understand) This is for the Junior Quilter:

Joy liked the process so much that she made another...

... For the JQ's big brother:

Patti finished 2 holiday lap quilts using the challenge blocks won in Dec 2019:

She made challenge BOMs for the quarantined months...

And a QOV quilt top:

Margaret completed a Scrap Quilt...

... And reports that she fell in love with the bicycle backing fabric:

She also made this 30 x 40" baby quilt:

The back is a panel similar to another baby quilt Margaret made some time back.  It's for the baby sister of the one who got the first sheep quilt:

Joyce had a TELL - "I have a wooden hand quilting frame (8' long, if I remember correctly) that I do not need.  How do I make it available to anyone in the guild? It's free."  The frame is currently assembled, but does come apart:

***Sorry!!  This item is no longer available!***

***Sorry!!  This item has been claimed!***

STILL AVAILABLE!!!

Karen W. needle felted this little wall hanging for a friend's birthday:

When asked if she drew it herself, she replied with the following:

I could have, but it probably wouldn't be recognizable.  Printed out some clip art, but I did create everything else.

Sherry had a TELL -
All, I hope you don't mind me emailing on a non-quilt-related topic. I volunteer for the Hillsborough Garden Club. Currently we are offering packets of Dwarf Sunflower Seeds - 15 seeds for a $5 donation. All proceeds go toward our scholarship fund. I can deliver the packets to you using social distancing or we can arrange to meet at the United Methodist Church in Hillsborough at the corner of Wake and Tryon.
Because of COVID-19, we weren't able to have our plant sale fundraiser in May, so I hope you will consider this. The seeds can be planted in a container or in the garden.
Thanks for considering this! I hope all are well and being safe.

Jean made a couple of vinyl car trash bags for a friend using iron-on vinyl and fabric from her stash:

The process went pretty well.  She read a number of blogs and found that the Pellon brand is the best to use.  Jean also learned that it's best to use the paper you take off the vinyl to use as a cover for your iron.  Don't use teflon pressing mats, as they can leave a texture.

She also made a couple more face masks, but mailed them off to her daughter without getting a photo first.

And...
Jean shared a close-up...

... Of the new quilt top she made from Halloween fabric:

She went through a couple of designs before settling on this one.  It's a keeper since all of those skeletons glow in the dark!!!

Until next time...
QUILT safely!!!

5/21/20 - CCLQ @ ZoomBEE

Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  We've been meeting online for TWO MONTHS.  Thank you to Deborah for setting up our Zoom sessions (and taking notes this week, too.)  Dee Dee served as our hostess for today's meeting.  Thanks for keeping us in line!  There were 15 members in attendance today.

Thank you to Jean for sharing this week's wonderful group photo:

Show and Tell...

DeeDee...

... Made Godiva chocolate and coconut bark.  It's too bad we didn’t get to try any!!   :o((

She's been working on her Storm at Sea quilt:

Here's a close-up of the new background.  It's ALMOST a perfect match:

Dee Dee sent along this photo for a closer look:

Cheryl K...

... Is finishing up a baby quilt, but she is taking out some stitches:

She is also binding another quilt and making plans to go camping.  She has been seeing some wonderful birds, Indigo bunting, etc. on her recent hikes.

Carol...

... Is working on her Postage Stamp quilt and has completed a handful of blocks like this one:

She asked for advice on machine quilting and most folks recommend starting in the center.

Lynda M...

... Had a good birthday party outside last week and...

Fabric gift for her birthday was Kaffe Fassett fabric...

... for a Lorna Doone quilt and mentioned that Gayle also liked this pattern:

Lynda will be making a blue, white, and yellow quilt in the "Bonnie Quilt" pattern that Joanna drew up from the "store-bought" quilt that Deborah's SIL purchased some time ago:

Ruth S...

... Joined us from The Bluff today.  She had a great trip back, as there was not much traffic. Her machine is being serviced by local shop which is open and now has fabric.  Rudolph is behind her:

Ruth S. also introduced Shelly the dog.  Shelly goes for walks with her.  Today she saw a Baltimore Oriole and a garden snake.  Shelly is her son’s dog and named after his favorite fishing lure!

Ella...

... Is intently gazing at Dee Dee's Show and Tell:

We see a LOT of this as we try to focus on our computer screens. LOL!  She has been working on her chicken quilt:

There are three blocks completed...

... However, it appears that our editor only managed to get a shot at two of them:

Quilter friend Debbie is coming to visit.

Ruth B...

... Will share a link to embroidery with group.  She showed her black and white quilt in progress:

Ruth needed some more interfacing for the masks she's been making and found it in her stash!

Joy...

... Has been busy playing with her scrap stash.  She recently completed this Green quilted scrap basket:

She practiced EXTREME scrap use in this (reversible) mug rug in green...

... That also doubles as wall art:

Joy also shared two yellow mug rugs...

... Using a pieced panel leftover from one that Maggie made:

Joy has two yellow pin cushions in progress, as well.  One is a flat cube...

... And the other is a skinny tube for placing in front of the machine or at the throat of the machine bed:

Maggie...

... Finished the top of her little squares scrap quilt from last week:

It will be a bunk bed donation quilt once it has been quilted...

... And is sure to please the recipient with these fun bike prints on the back:

Maggie sent photos...

... Which were a little clearer than what I got on the screen:

Jean...

... Tried to take time off from quilting…

... Obviously, THAT didn’t last long!  She also thought she was done with masks.  Guess what?  She's making more masks, too:

Jean sewed on the sleeve (and sent a photo) of the Willie Quilt:

Here she is trying to get a better look at Candy's phone photos.  Not to worry, Jean!  Candy sent along better pictures:

Here's a better photo of the progress she made on her bunk bed quilt:

Candy...

  ... Made masks for grandkids:

She showed (a phone photo of) the donation quilt that Britt quilted, along with...

... One of the back:

Candy also shared the batik mask made from Joanna's fabric:

She sent these photos to supplement what we could see on our screens:

The backing was gifted from a friend:

Britt did a beautiful job on the freehand longarm quilting:

Lisa...

... Joined the meeting from England today.  She was sitting outside on new patio.  It was a beautiful sunny day and moved inside just before leaving the meeting:

Lisa (later) sent the following:

Here’s my show and tell ðŸ™‚. The red peony is called Karl Rosenfield.  It’s an old hybrid from 1909, and very popular.  The yellow one is just blooming for the first time this year. It’s name is Bartzella.  The one still in bud is Sara Bernhardt, my particular fave as my mom used to call me Sara Bernhardt when I was little.  Look at all those buds!  She will be as dramatic as her namesake when she blooms this year ðŸ™‚

Love,

Lisa xx

Joanna...

... Has some interesting blocks up on her design wall:

She started another project.  It's made with four sub-units (as seen on the left in the photo above) to create a center square of tiny 4-Patches, as shown below:

Those small 4-Patch blocks were too much! She started making these blocks:

Joanna is considering what will go in the middle of them, once they have been cut in half, like those shown on the right in the photo below:

Deborah...

... Waved good morning to everyone.  She is currently making a quilted suitcase for her granddaughter’s upcoming birthday:

She made the same pattern a few years ago for her grandson:

Britt...

... Did her best "Vanna" impression (except I missed the smile) as she showed off her new gallery wire filled with small quilts:

She tried her first pantograph on the long arm machine:

It's done now and...

... For the quilting on this gorgeous scrappy quilt made of reproduction fabrics:

Editor's Note...

Special thanks to Deborah for taking notes during this week's meeting.  It was SEW much easier to focus on getting the best photos possible.  Please contact Joy for any necessary changes to this week's post.

Until next time...
Bee SEW healthy!!!
