12/14/17 - CCLQ @ Deborah's

Welcome to this week's CCLQ meeting!  Thank you to our hostess, Deborah.  Eight members and one guest were in attendance.

Let's take a look around the room...

Dee Dee's here today:

She brought projects to share.  Just LOOK at Miss Burwell's new psychedelic dog coat:

And a Wonder Woman coat, too:

Harbor is getting a new pillowcase:

She rescued this floor mat from her friend's cabin:

Dee Dee had painted this 10+ years ago and the friend thought that it was too nice to walk on:

Here is a look of the artist with her work:

Ruth B. brought along a little stitchery that she recently finished:

Dee Dee's (old) dog coat pattern finally made it around the circle:

Here's a close-up of Harbor's pillowcase:

Jean has been busy:

Quilted with feathers, of course:

Here she is... hiding behind the quilt:

Highlighted by mitered borders:

Another quilt by Jean:

The closer shot didn't get the right lighting, but here it is anyway:

Jean chose a "yuckie green" back and used scraps for extra width:

Joanna got serious about her project for the day:

Candy is ALMOST done with her quilt cross stitch:

Jean worked on the label of  the "Yuckie Green" quilt:

Ruth S. readies herself for sewing down the binding of a donation:

Ruth B. shared her adorable Laurel Burch socks:

Ahh!  Joanna was attempting to complete the binding...

... Of this table runner before her turn for Show and Tell:

The pattern showed up best on the hardwood floor:

Deborah made baby booties for a new grand coming in June 2018:

She plans to make a hat out of this yummy Koigu yarn:

Deborah presented Joanna with a gift...

... From Pineapple Fabrics, since she missed the trip because of her husband's emergency surgery:

Ella showed off Barry's (?) newest quilt:

She was also trying to escape the camera's eye:

Gayle knew that several people hadn't seen her Snowman runner:

Her Christmas Star wall hanging:

Here is a close-up of those adorable caroling snowmen:

Some had not seen Gayle's Christmas Tree lap quilt:

These are the fabrics that Deborah brought Joanna:

Oh!  Gayle also shared her 60* Star of David quilt...

... And gave out more of her Folded Star ornaments:

Ella finished Jonathan's baby quilt:

Members enjoyed visiting with Deborah's MIL during today's meeting.  Thanks for joining us, Rebecca:

Seven members enjoyed lunch at Monterrey Mexican:

Sorry for the delay in posting.  Holiday sewing took WAY more time than expected.

Until next time...

12/9 - NT Holiday Pot Luck @ Carol's

Welcome to the Holiday Pot Luck for the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  There were 10 members in attendance.  Thank you to Carol for opening up her festive home for the event!

These packages are for Carol's Dirty Santa game, but that will wait:

We started off with a fair amount of chatting and then moved on to scheduling our 2018 first quarter meetings, but exceeded that goal:

January 21 @ SECU Family House for a Sew Day  (Linda/Ruth B)
February 17 @ Carol's
March 17 @ Candy's
April 21 @ Britt's (Possible Sew Day)
May 19 @ Ruth B's (Pending Furniture!)
June 16 @ Dee Dee's (Potential Art Day)
July 20 @ Gayle's

One other item of business:

Please email Joy with your list of tools/specialty rulers that you are willing to share with the group.  This will save members money when only trying a technique or making a quilt pattern once.  The list can be found on a NEW tab at the top of our blog's homepage.  When an item is borrowed or returned, drop Joy a note to add to the listing for that item.  That will make it easier to keep track of each members items.  Thanks for suggesting our group "specialty ruler lending library", Candy!  It should prove to be quite beneficial.

We then moved on to Show and Tell...

Joy has been busy...

Making Scrappy Scrap Baskets sans QAYG and handles:

She used this one to practice a Wishbone quilting design:

Our photographer was Britt.  Here was the view from her chair:

Ruth B. - Brought the backing fabric for Twirling in Reverse:

Helena held up Ruth's fabric to give an idea of how it will work:

Helena - TELL - She dreamed that she had something to show us:

Britt - Holiday sewing!!  Napkins, placemats, and coasters:

She also made a Drawstring Bag using fabrics from Pineapple:

Candy made a Christmas stocking for the grand due any day now:

Here is a closer look:

Candy is missing the directions for her favorite bag pattern.  Did anyone borrow them from her and forget to replace the pages?  Here is a look at the cove to jog your memory:

She also brought along the pattern for the Play Tee Pee that she will make for Lilly:

Gayle has been on a quilting binge!! She made a snowman topper:

Along with a Christmas wall hanging from Missouri Star...

A Christmas Tree quilt she found on Pinterest.  She used 10.5" strips from her stash:

... And a Star of David quilt using her 60* ruler from Fons and Porter.  This was made without a pattern and she thought it might NEVER get done, but then she had a little talk with herself.  She said, "Gayle, you are NOT a quitter!  Even if you have to make yourself do this, you are GOING to finish this quilt!"  She combined her Kaffe stash with fabrics that Britt traded for her collection of wool applique.  SEW... she got the quilt done and now she LOVES this quilt:

Gayle also made gifts for everyone.  Thank you, Gayle!  She made Star Ornaments from 5" squares:

Here is a closer look at her Snowman Table Topper:

Oh!  Candy found the Glitter Thread from Superior Threads:

Linda - Planning a quilt for her great niece using her purchases from Pineapple Fabrics and the Grayscale pattern that we used for our #quiltsforvegas quilts.  This will be combined with the Heart block pattern used in our #QuiltsforPulse quilts:

She showed off her Hedgehog Quilt made for her great-great niece.  This used a flannel back to make it extra cozy:

SEW many pieces, as evidenced by this close-up shot:

Linda used Elizabeth Hartman's Hazel Hedgehog pattern:

Carol - Here is the quilt that she made for her daughter for Christmas using Japanese Girl fabric and a pattern that Margaret had showed at an NT Nights meeting.  Carol copied the quick and easy quilt, throwing in 2 x 4" bits of Carolina Blue fabric when she ran out of her light-colored fabric:

The photo below shows the quilting that Cheryl B (?) did on it:

Here is a closer look at the quilting - on the bit of yellow Carol used when she ran out of backing fabric:

Dee Dee - There's a friend who will try anything!  She's getting these Wonder Woman luggage tags that were made from this panel and Miss Burwell will be getting a dog coat with the accompanying Wonder Woman patch on the back:

From the same panel, Dee Dee embellished some towels:

She bought 5 yards of this wonderful stripe at Pineapple Fabrics to make herself a new robe:

TELL:  Because of that purchase, she vows to take 5 yards out of her stash to donate.  Sounds like a great plan, Dee Dee!!

She also made MORE gifts.  Look at this wonderful stack of Bowl Cozies!!  Candy passed along a link and then she found a YouTube video that used 10" or 12" squares to make 2 different sizes:

A fellow art quilter passed along a tip for marking your quilts.  Dee Dee did a test piece using all colors and then washed to see which were removed easiest and most fully:

Cheryl K - Showed off her loot from Pineapple Fabrics, including a number of one-yard packets that were two for one, plus an additional 20% off:

She made Trail Totes for gifts:

Cheryl also made a Table Runner with the leftover blocks from her daughter-in-law's quilt to give her for Christmas:

While at Pineapple, she bought Deb Tucker's book on Hunter Stars

Cheryl has made 2 more blocks and has chosen the Check Mate design (her DH loves the pattern!) for a quilt to go with her new living room furniture:

Joy fell in love with Cheryl's new shopping tote:

Cheryl kindly traced the pattern for the tote:

By the time we made it around the room, it was time for lunch!!

After lunch, the majority of us participated in Carol's Dirty Santa FQ Exchange... and, oh, did it get dirty!!

Linda looks happy:

Gayle looks pleased:

Candy liked the fabric packet that she drew:

Joy was thrilled with her batiks:

Ruth B. really like the fabric she got:

Joy had to draw again...

... Because Cheryl K. decided to "steal" the batiks:

Ruth B. had to choose again...

... Because Carol decided to "steal" her blues:

Insert sad face here because she raced off for some reason before we could get a  picture of her.  :o((

Until next time...
Happy Holidays!!!
