7/13/17: CCLQ @ Ella's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  Last week the blogger was out sick, so sorry there was no blog. This week seven quilters met at Ella's home. Make that eight quilters as we had a virtual visit from Ruth S. via Skype! We were also pleasantly surprised with a visit from Cheryl B!

Ella served up yummy watermelon, gluten free brownies, and lemon poppy seed muffins!

DeeDee started show and tell with a new project.

DeeDee redesigned this quilt block for a more  symmetrical look.

DeeDee found some excellent fabrics when she went on vacation to South Carolina.
Oh yeah...lovely pink flamingos!

DeeDee found this row by row for Linda.

Another stash builder for DeeDee...beautiful butterfly fabric.

Joanna shared this stunning "Night Star" quilt from a Craftsy quilt kit and class. She made this while at the beach last week!

Deborah shared this nine patch quilt which was recently machine quilted by Gayle S.

Ruth B and Cheryl B enjoy fun times at CCLQ!

Cheryl worked on some hexagon blocks.
Ella revealed her latest project on her design wall.

More blocks...

Joanna stretches to rearrange colors on Ella's quilt.

Wow...look at this stunning Lady of the Lake quilt!

Ella plans to make placemats with the left over blocks.

Ella gave away lots of thread! Thank you Ella!

Ruth S participated via Skype.  We each took turns talking with Ruth one by one!

Ruth S shared her latest project.  It's called Stripy Trees.

This is Barry's latest block with the fabric from  his Father's Day gift.

Six quilters dined at the Saxapahaw General Store Cafe.

Next week, quilters will meet up at the Quilt Expo in Raleigh either on Thursday or Saturday.

7/8 - NT @ Britt's (Sew Day!!)

Welcome to the (impromptu) June meeting of the Nimble Thimbles quilt bee!!  We were lacking in volunteers for the new quarter, but Britt offered her house for a Sew Day.  It morphed into a regular meeting, followed by lunch and an afternoon of quilting. Thanks, Britt!!  Thank you to everyone who brought food for lunch, too!  As always, it was delicious.

Upcoming Events:

August 12/19 - NT @ C. Breeze (TBD!)
9/9 - NT @ Cheryl K.

Show and Tell:

Look who Margaret dragged to the meeting.  Welcome back, Cheryl B.:

Gayle, Candy, and Britt were having a chat:

Lean in Jean!  Linda won't bite.  Smile:

Oh!  Just look at the texture on this quilt that Cheryl quilted:

Here's the front of her client's great grandson's quilt:

Cheryl also quilted this Giraffe applique quilt for a client:

She also finished the piecing of her Craftsy BOM for a friend:

Her Jinny Beyer quilt top now has the borders attached:

Here's a close-up:

Cheryl also pieced this Laurie Shifrin quilt kit purchased at Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shoppe in Greensboro:

Margaret made this quilt for her son.  He's moving into his own apartment down in Wilmington, so (even though he didn't NEED a new quilt) she felt that a nautical themed quilt was in order.  Cheryl did the quilting on this one:

Here is a close-up of the pattern and quilting:

Reach for the Stars was published in QNM 2015 in 7 installments. Gayle did the quilting on this one:

She also wanted an opinion about the binding:

Margaret brought some Mug Rugs...

... And a batch of bags for the Collective Market:

Here's the quilt (pattern from the Pizza Ladies) that she will be working on today:

She also had a TELL about the SALE at K's Closet in downtown Hillsborough that she and Cheryl B. attended.  The owner bought a lot of Thimble Pleasures' remaining inventory and sells it at $8/yrd.

Joy shared her June QAL quilt top.  She is super excited to have used her 50th birthday scraps in the making of this quilt!! Directions can be found on the Crazy Mom Quilts blog:

Everyone moved in closer to see if they could spot their own fabric scraps in the quilt!  The gifted scraps were presented in this very room at the October 2015 Nimble Thimbles meeting:

Linda made a new quilt top.  It's the Colorado block from Missouri Star Quilt Company:

She plans to apply mitered border to it today:

This is the label for Willie's Grooming Bandannas quilt:

Happy Birthday "H" was a fun quilt to make, with its 30 dogs and 90 buttons to decorate the 30 pairs of eyes and 30 noses:

Summer Nausea was made with the leftover 9-Patch blocks from her Nausea quilt:

Jean halved a wool quilt batt to make this a light weight quilt.  Just look at that ruler quilting!!  She cheated and used the ruler to mark the quilting lines then used her walking foot:

Britt is almost finished with the quilting on this Christmas in Summer quilt:

The photos just don't do justice to the quilting designs:

Britt had finished the paper-pieced butterflies for Kit Kat's quilt:

Here she is with her Doodle Quilt from a Symposium class with Laura Wasilowski:

Britt has chosen a beautiful pink ombre for her background:

Gayle was here!!  She had a TELL.  She has started her Tall Ship wool applique project that was purchased at Symposium.  When finished, it will be framed to hang in her family room with the models that her husband has been making.

Since she is enjoying the process so much, Gayle is planning to make her own patterns upon the completion of this project.

Candy made Mug Rugs (coasters?) for the Collective Market:

She also made a couple of Quilted Photo Frames...

... Along with a (pair of) small wall hanging (s):

Time to break for lunch!!  Then the sewing begins!!

Margaret discussed methods for mitered borders:

Linda pressed her quilt top in preparation for those borders:

Britt layed out some leftover blocks:

Joy double-stitched Clue #1 of Kevin's Sapphire Stars mystery:

Margaret stitched on a quilt binding:

Britt started laying out quilt blocks on the design floor:

Linda worked on attaching her quilt borders:

Britt found that she needed to make 4 more blocks:

Linda moved that much closer to a completed quilt top:

Joy trimming up her Sapphire Star Mystery bonus squares:

Cheryl B. returned with this quilt top:

She worked on sizing the basic unit of the quilt:

Britt sewed another String block:

Margaret separated batting from quilt trimmings:

She folded the usable pieces...

... And made a pile of batting scraps for the trash:

Until next time...
BEE a quilter!!!
