1/23/2020 CCLQ at Candy’s

There’s something special in the air.  It's a new year and spring is just around the corner.  Even though most of us have countless UFO’s (unfinished objects/quilts) in our sewing spaces, there’s magic in the air and inspiration and new ideas are currently abundant.  Enjoy reading about the new beginnings and the effervescent creative process of this group! This week the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters met at Candy’s home.  Yes....we met at Candy’s house for two weeks in a row due to heating issues at another member’s home. Thank you Candy for stepping up and volunteering to host!

Birthday wishes to our January birthday ladies:  Gayle, Ruth B and Ruth S.  Hope everyone had a wonderful birthday!

Lynda volunteered to go first as she was excited about the new piece she's started! This inspiration started when DeeDee gave Lynda some art quilt magazines. 

Lynda loves elephants and found this pattern by Barbara Jones.   Laura Heine has also designed several popular collage quilts.

Lynda created a background and used a product called "pattern ease"   to copy the pattern for placing the pieces for the collage. Lynda found a similar product at Joann's Fabric called Easy Pattern.

Lynda shared a photo of her luscious color palette of fabrics for this piece.  

The pattern called for using voile to trace the pattern but just in the nick of time, Britt had a magazine with new directions for a Laura Heine project that called for using Pattern Ease instead of voile.  Lynda has used Pattern Ease frequently in her embroidery projects, so this was an excellent tip from Britt. PS...DeeDee who loves birds... wants to borrow Britt's magazine to make the collage songbird! Folks this is BIG MAGIC!

Ella had an interesting tell today. She and her husband worked to box up the train collection and put it in the attic. She found more boxes of fabric and more boxes of china too!   

Joanna finished quilting Ruth S's lovely donation quilt. 

Candy worked on the binding of her purple pecking order quilt. 

Candy found this lovely linen fabric at the Alamance Hospice Thrift Shop.  The colors reminded her of Lynda's favorite colors, so she gave it to Lynda. 

Cheryl K had a wonderful trip to Florida and also shared this print of birds which she plans to make into a quilt!

Cheryl also traveled through Ohio recently and her husband said, "I'm glad you don't plan to stop at any quilt shops."  Well Cheryl had not thought of stopping until he mentioned it. 

Cheryl found some good deals at Zinck's Fabric. 

Cheryl plans to make a baby quilt with this adorable print and the rainbow color fabrics.

Deborah brought a sample of the 3-D quilt she started at a quilt at the beach retreat last weekend. She completed all the blocks and now needs to sew them together.  It's a graduation gift for her nephew who graduated from Clemson. 

Deborah modeled a new apron that was a gift from her sister -in-law.  It's a  Four Corners Apron or Angled Square Apron.  Deborah planned to bring the dimensions to the next meeting but found a link with free instructions and the same measurements!

DeeDee finished this lovely art quilt project.  DeeDee also reported that she's quilting on her large bird quilt and has started a leader and ender project. 

The background is hand dyed textured fabric.  The flowers are exquisite!

Maggie shared a virtual show of the curtains she made for her son's new house. The fabric was from the Alamace Hospice Thrift Shop.

Carol reported that she had been working on her cardinal quilt blocks and busy baby sitting for grandkids this past week. 

Ruth reported that she had a fun birthday with her kids and went to  Mothers and Sons Trattoria in Durham to celebrate. 

Chip was very brave and friendly and joined our group for the first time!

1/16/20: CCLQ at Candy's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week eight quilters met at the home of Candy H. Enjoy reading about what quilters have been making, plan to make, and what quilters are giving.

Candy is crocheting a warm scarf. 

Candy shared that she had fun making fabric bags for holiday gifts.  She recently purchased this wonderful fabric selection from equilter.com

DeeDee made this cozy fleece scarf featuring a kitten design. 

Here's DeeDee's "Ella Quilt" which is finished!  DeeDee's working on the binding.  Joanna did the awesome quilting on this one.

DeeDee brought patterns to share!

Deborah found this book with directions for a tumbling block quilt.  The quilt will be a gift for her nephew's college graduation. 

Ruth S made this fun Quilt As You Go donation quilt with some fishing fabric given to her by Maggie.  

Here's the back of Ruth S's QAYG quilt.  Ruth found a bag of tan and brown fabric and some left over blocks and created a quilt backing which could be the front! She plans to add a border and will use some left over blocks for corner stones. 

Ruth B donated these left over blocks to Ruth S for her border blocks!

Joanna completed the quilting on Candy's modern quilt.

Ruth B brought some lovely quilted potholders for gifts for everyone. 

Ella finished the binding on her cheerful peppermint candy quilt!

Lynda reported that she was inspired by some magazines given by DeeDee.  She got out some old silk paintings and some molas from the past and plans to start the new year with some new projects.

Candy's kitty enjoyed cuddling during the meeting.

1/14/20 - NT Nights @ Passmore Center

Welcome to the Early January meeting of the Nimble Thimble Nights Quilt Bee!!  It was our first meeting of the new decade!!  6 members and 1 guest were in attendance.
