7/26/16 - NT Nights @ Hboro Library

Welcome to the July meeting of the Nimble Thimbles evening group!!  This month seven of us were relegated to the large study room upstairs, so space was at a premium.  You may have wondered what brought the change.  Well, we did, too!  To answer this question, I ambled down to take a look at our regular meeting spot.  Science In The Summer Camp was set up in the room that we usually use.  We couldn't be disturbing the various projects set out. Makes perfect sense (and we'll be back in the HUGE meeting room next month!!

Joy trimmed a bit of The Missing Quilt, then took some pictures:

Margaret showed off one of the mug rugs assembled for DOQ:

Bo posed with the back of her latest quilting commission:

Joy trimmed some more edges:

Bo had another quilt to share:

Here's a shot of the back...

... And a shot of where the blocks meet:

Bo also quilted a set of placemats...

... With whisks...

... Chef hats...

... And mixing spoons:

She then showed up the bag she embellished with her logo on her NEW T-shirt Press:

Carol did some hand quilting:

Margaret eventually laid out ALL of the Mug Rugs that she assembled:

She quilted them herself!!!  Good job, Margaret!!

She worked on pinking the edges:

LOOK!!!  Bo actually WORKED on a project tonight:

Here is Karen holding up her latest quilting project...

... And here she is working on the binding:

Britt got busy tying off threads...

... On Dorm Quilt #2:

Roots:

... And branches...

... And the stitching on this AMAZING quilt:

Margaret resorted to laying out rows on a tiny bit of floor:

Victoria joined us for a short while after the Fall Sports meeting:

She worked on THIS knitting pattern:

Even though we were in a snug space, we managed to get a LOT done.  If YOU weren't with us, we hope to see you next month!! Same time, same place, but back in the room that allows for multiple quilts to be laid out on the floor simultaneously.

Until next time...
Be flexible!!!

7/21/2016: CCLQ at Candy's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  Although we had a small group of five quilters today, we had lots of show and tell as you'll see from the photos below.  Lot's of laughs and fun today as Ella greeted DeeDee and Deborah at the door and said, "Candy's not here...we're going to meet at my house."  It's so much fun to start the day with laughter!

You know how DeeDee loves bird fabric!  Well is this fabric or one of Candy's unique napkins?  In all honesty, it is paper, but someone said it would be great as a fabric! Just the right size to scan and print.  If you want to make this fabric, contact Candy to save the napkin for you.

DeeDee ordered some Bosal to make a bag. It's a unique fusible foam stabilizer.

DeeDee is showing one of the bags that Candy made.  This might be just the right size.

DeeDee found this book in her studio after quite a search. It's by Susan Carlson. Check out her website! https://www.susancarlson.com/Welcome.html

Candy shared some exploration with machine quilting letters. She's making a play quilt for Lilly. The idea is from a Craftsy class with Jacquie Gering.  http://www.craftsy.com/class/creative-quilting-with-your-walking-foot/562?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1469132875513~ejasfx48

A close up with two colors of thread.

After playing with machine quilting, Candy decided to use Gayle's applique method for the letters.

Here's Candy's applique foot for the Bernina. It has grooves that allow for easier applique.

While we were in Candy's studio, DeeDee spotted this bag. Hey, it's just the right size!  Now, DeeDee's got a brand new bag! Lucky DeeDee! Now DeeDee needs a new project for the Bosal.

Candy shared the pattern for the bag...it's available from Robert Kaufman. http://www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/trail_tote/#color:1

Joanna showed this beautiful bag.  She's made two like this and recently sold one! Way to go Joanna!
Joanna recently traveled to Wilmington and visited two quilt shops.  She brought bag two Row by Row patterns for Linda.

Here's a close up of the printed fabric for one of the Wilmington Row by Row designs. This one was a kit with the fabric strips already cut!

Joanna found this pattern for Barry.

Joanna had lots of show and tell today!  She found this pattern for DeeDee.

Jean and Joanna put the Heart Quilt One quilt blocks together. The group discussed borders. Stay tuned for next week to see what the border will look like!

Here are the blocks for Heart Quilt Two.  Candy will put this one together.  Joanna will quilt both of the quilts.  DeeDee and Deborah will do the binding.  We will try hard to have it all completed by August 15th!

Ella has been cleaning out her studio.  She offered this fabric....Candy was the lucky winner!

Ella also offered this fabric and pattern for an apron and hot mit.  Candy was the winner on this one too.  She might make something pink for Lilly...maybe some overalls.

Ella found this lovely piece of fabric.  Jennifer brought it to her from Europe.  Ella plans to frame this. It's by Heidi Lange.  Check out Heidi's website.  She's quite an interesting artist and adventurer! https://www.heidilange.net/

Ella made this gorgeous peacock quilt.  Suggestions were given for border/no border and quilting ideas.

Ella shared these companion fabrics for the peacock panel. The group decided none of these worked for borders. There's enough to make a new quilt!

Deborah took photos and knitted a bit on a scarf.

Last week the group talked about making a quilt for the Dallas Police Officers.  The Dallas Modern Quilt Guild has already worked on this.  Joanna suggested that we make a quilt to show support for our local police officers. Candy called the Orange County Sheriff's department and spoke with the outreach coordinator and he will call us back. CCLQ may have another donation project.

Deborah shared the Quilters Newsletter is going out of print.  http://us6.campaign-archive2.com/?u=bf90658c882da54e264d831b7&id=e8ab4c6b18&e=9af69a0c17.

Five quilters dined at Grill Worx in Mebane.

Until next week....here's a special quilting quote for you:
"Quilters....
Cut with hope,
Stitch with grace,
Quilt with dreams,
Bind with laughter,
Share with love.
