5/2/19: CCLQ at Cheryl K’s

Isn't Spring your favorite season? It's so inspiring for quilters.  This week 11.5 quilters met at Cheryl K’s house and the meeting started in the garden.  The next challenge for this group may have something to do with flowers.  Take a look and get inspired by Cheryl’s garden!  Then enjoy all the wonderful quilts shown by the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters. Bee sure to read Cheryl's quilt history and find out about a surprise gift for Ruth S! We will miss you Ruth although we eagerly await your return in the fall!

Kaffe Fasset...this one is for you!
Wonderful colors
More beautiful flowers... this is a Columbine.

Cheryl shared her quilt history which started in 1972 in South Carolina. She was working as a nurse in a VISTA program at that time. She made a quilt frame that was suspended from the ceiling. She bought her first Singer sewing machine and used cheap fabric.  She made a quilt with small squares and tied it.  She moved back to Ohio and made a red and white quilt for her mother.  She also tied that one. She met her husband while she was making that quilt. Then she stopped quilting for a while. She saved her first  quilt and gave it to her son.  He loved that quilt so much that it eventually fell apart.
Close to her retirement time, DeeDee invited Cheryl to join the bee and she has been a prolific quilter since then!

Cheryl showed her spectacular Blooming Nine Patch quilt which was quilted by Joy.

Awesome quilting by Joy!
Ella started making a quilt using this pieced rectangular method.  She was inspired by Jean's kitchen quilt with appliquéd rectangles and decided to use appliqué to make the quilt pictured below.
Here's Ella's spectacular quilt with wonderful couched threads as part of the embellishment and quilting.
Close up of couching and spiral quilting.  Well done Ella!
Candy's donation quilt with Ella fabric is complete.
Candy has started quilting the unicorn quilt and wanted advice from the group on how to quilt the face and had an idea about using yarn for the mane.  Lots of ideas poured out from the group.  Can't wait to see what Candy will do!
Candy is making a table topper for her niece who loves orange!

Lynda is working on another block for her Sue Spargo Quilt.
Close up of Lynda's beautiful appliqué. More embellishment will be added to this block.
Lynda shared information about a new quilt retreat center in Hillsborough!  Next week she's arranged for our bee to tour the retreat center.
Joanna had a bag of marvelous scraps for Joy!
Joy has been busy busy busy long arm machine quilting.
Joanna has a project up on her design wall.
Gayle worked on the binding for a quilt.
Gayle made this delightful donation quilt using Pineapple Fabrics and solids from her stash.
Here's the wonderful surprise for Ruth S.  Jean told the story of how she encouraged Ruth to buy some silk at the Hampton Quilt Show.  Ruth bought it but gave it back to Ruth and said she didn't want to make a silk quilt.  Years later, Jean embroidered this piece in honor of Ruth and Jeff's upcoming 50th anniversary.
Heartfelt hugs!

Jean shared this beautiful quilt.  Ten years ago a group of friends got together and had a quilt challenge.
Here are photos of the quilts from Jean's group quilt challenge.
Jean has finished this stunning silk tie quilt.  It's a retirement gift for her friend's husband.
Cheryl showed these fabric selections for a Josephine's Knot quilt.
Here's a photo of the pattern.
Deborah has started sewing borders on the Hungry Alphabet Animal blocks.
Deborah went to Art in the Heart of Hillsborough last weekend and found this unusual seam ripper.
Ella shared another method of finishing quilt. Ella used couching along two folded edges. This piece is a sample.
Here's the back...more to come when Ella does a binding demonstration at her house.
DeeDee is working on her tulip quilt. The secret challenge piece is half done and she's been working in her garden a lot.

Until next time, happy quilting!!!
