Welcome to a special edition of CCLQ News!! One of our members has been "out of commission" for a number of weeks now. (The ever thoughtful) Britt decided that we should send a Quilty Hug.
What's a quilter to do???
She set out to find a quilt top that would be just right for its recipient.
First, wondering if our group Pineapple quilt might work:
The quilt was deemed "not PURPLE enough" and it was determined that it would be too small. Joy dragged out her one of her Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilts...
... And the corresponding quilt back:
We decided that it might be too big, but that sparked the memory of Britt's quilt from a long ago Strips That Sizzle class with Sarah.
However...
It would need borders. A couple of options included a thin purple border with a wider green border...
Which looked really good, but it wasn't purple enough for the quilts purple-loving recipient. More purple looked more better:
Then we moved on to the matter of a backing fabric...
This gorgeous fabric was in Britt's stash, but would require quite a bit of enhancement to make it large enough to fit the quilt top:
Joy had just the right backing fabric in her stash! It mirrored the border fabrics perfectly and there was plenty of it, so that only one seam was needed to make it fit the top of the quilt:
Britt loaded it on the longarm, quilted it up and shared it at last week's CCLQ Zoom meeting:
With the binding and label applied, Britt dropped the quilt off...
... For a photo op and next-day delivery:
Delivery day...
Card first:
Oh! The color got the desired response:
Stopping to read the label...
... Here is what she saw:
Fully opened to reveal the quilt's inner beauty:
A selfie with the appreciative recipient and the delivery girl:
Suddenly, her cotton blanket was too heavy...
... And Joanna requested its removal, so she could nap beneath her new quilt:
Until next time...
Sending quilty hugs!!!
