Welcome to the August meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!  Thank you, Jean, for hosting the meeting.  We were all happy to see your latest Kitchen Quilt on its home turf:

Thanks to everyone who brought treats to share.  There were TWELVE members present. Eleven gathered at Jean's house...

And...

Everyone was SEW EXCITED that Lisa was in attendance via FaceTime from England!!!

We all enjoyed chatting with her prior to the meeting and had a tough time settling down to "business."  It's been so long since she's been able to dial in!!

Today was the day that our Dye Challenge was due.  Jean issued the challenge at Dee Dee's in June, after our day of dyeing and mono printing.

Here is what was presented...

Joy started us off with her "For the Birds" wall hanging:

Jean made something useful...

This is the inside of her purse organizer:

Margaret brought her collection of jelli prints:

Carol brought the collection of Lattice Blocks made with her hand dyed fabrics:

Gayle completed a large wall hanging using the jelli prints that she made at home:

Here's a close-up with the "bling" that she added to the quilt:

Dee Dee brought along a photo of Jill's use of jelli prints, which she added to the back of her daughter Sally's new quilt:  (Thanks for thinking to send that along since you couldn't be with us!)

This is what Britt plans to do with her own hand dyed fabrics:

We also had "regular" Show and Tell...

Joy shared her newest Quilt of Valor, begun at the recent DOQ Donation Quilt Workshop:

She also was encouraged by Helena to bring the next challenge in line for completion:

This is the Merino/Silk crocheted shawl that Lisa shared. The yarn came from her last trip to the states. She bought it in NYC:

Britt is almost done with the quilting on her brother's quilt. Only the center and outer border remain:

Here's a closer shot so that you can see her beautiful quilting:

Margaret brought her Batik Wedding Quilt...

All but ONE of those fabrics was in her stash!!!

She packed the quilt in her "Beach Bag" that she couldn't bear to take to the beach!!!  LOL

Here's what the other side looks like:

She also passed around her "Lake Bags" and told that the gifted ones were used and loved:

NOTE:  Jean suggested that these bags could be done as a Thrift Store Zipper project and offered to teach a class!!  Everyone should start collecting their thrifted items now.  Someone needs to remind the "Scheduling Queen" to add this event to the calendar!!!

Speaking of Jean, she is on a mission to use up her Procion Dyes and this stack of her personally hand-dyed fabrics.  She showed them to us, spread them on the table and said, "Choose one!!" (Thank you, Jean!! They are SO beautiful!!!):

And...

Here is her secret stash of hand-dyes:

Just LOOK at this professional looking dye job:

Carol is making another quilt for her grandson.  This one uses a Matchbox Car panel:

Gayle had a TELL:  As you may or may not know, she is making a donation quilt a week.  She's even a little ahead so that she can fit in a Quilt of Valor!  Well, she brought it to the attention of the Quilt Guild's programming director and wondered if they might like to have her do a Trunk Show to build enthusiasm and awareness.  She will be planning a program for February of 2016.  Maybe other guild members will take up the challenge!!

Ruth had nothing to SHOW, but had a TELL:  She's working on her Pinwheels and had "Camp Grandma" for 2 of the last 3 weeks.  She finally got back to her sewing room and has found that the bright lights from sewing at night make her not be able to sleep if quilting at night. Interesting!!

Linda had a TELL:  She wasn't putting the binding on her daughter Margaret's quilt because she ran out of the fabric that she wanted to use.  Good news!!  She found some more and will soon get busy.

Candy has been making baby shoes for her granddaughter and some for other gifts:

She also had a TELL:  Had proclaimed this the "Year of the Knife", as she had heart surgery this Winter and is scheduled to have a hip replacement at the end of September!!

This is one of several quilts that Candy has planned...

Using this adorable ABC Animal print (that she HAD to by more of!!).  The next one will have animals in the center with geese around the outside.  She will make Lily one for her 1st birthday, too:

Candy also had a REQUEST:  Please post more reminders on the blog for upcoming meetings.  Joy asked Britt to see if she could figure out how to add TABS to the top of the page.  (If YOU know, please feel free to leave a comment!!)

If you weren't with us, THIS is what you missed:

YUM!!!

Helena had a TELL:  She LOVES the advise that she got at Cheryl B's house regarding the quilt she had a question about.  THANK YOU, everyone!!  The narrow red strip was the perfect solution.  (She also said that she's SLOW, so it's not done yet.)

Dee Dee tied up some fabrics scraps (using ANOTHER fabric scrap) for our "Scrap Queen":

Dee Dee showed off her completed Starstruck Quilt.  Please note that she took liberties with the pattern and removed the "light background prints" to this stunning quilt.  She also cut 3.5" instead of 2.5" squares (because that's what she had!)  She felt that no border was necessary for this pattern:

She's also been "Chasing Your Shadow"... creating this piece for what appears to be her lizard series:

Here's a closer look at the Art Bee Challenge fabric from several years ago, a botanical photo that she took (and then had printed onto fabric at Spoonflower!):

Dee Dee completed this UFO fish pillow (that kept diving into the depths of her studio.)  She kept losing and finding this project, but has finally finished it!!  The project is from Serendipity Quilts and she calls it her Barracuda Neck Pillow.  The fabric is glued onto the background and then quilted in place:

She has also been exploring Mixed Media.  This piece was made in honor of Paul Clay and she will do it again in fabric someday:

And... birds, music...

Here's a closer look at Dee Dee's fabulous mixed media piece.  Britt and Joy were fighting over this one!!  It is SEW interesting because of the various layers:

Lisa had a TELL:  She's been too busy working to do much in her studio, but the good news is that she will be able to spend time with her quilting friends (US!!!) during her trip to America for Thanksgiving!!!  It's her first trip home in two years.

NOTE:  The November 2015 NT Meeting will be held Nov. 21st, 10 AM @ Joy's.  Change your calendar!!

Joy was wearing a quilty shirt today and so was Linda!  I'll get a shot of hers next time:

Until next time...
Do something different!!!

Willie was our guest today.  He's enjoying Carol's travel stories.  (We did, too!)
