3/9/17: CCLQ @ DeeDee's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week's meeting was at DeeDee's home and guess what?  It was also DeeDee's birthday! 🎂  Eight quilters attended today's meeting and we had lots of fun!  Britt joined us for lunch at Vinny's Italian Grill.

Happy Birthday DeeDee! DeeDee made delicious gluten free brownies and I don't know where those candles came from.

We all joined in for a chorus of "Happy Birthday to You!"

Look at DeeDee's collection of  beautiful quilts cleverly displayed on a ladder.

DeeDee created this wonderful collage...so happy and reminding us... here comes springtime!

Joanna has completed this stunning modern quilt using  Karla Alexander's Stack-Shuffle-Slide Technique. Joanna plans to enter this quilt in the North Carolina Quilt Symposium.

Ruth S revealed the name of her new Bernina..."Savannah." Ruth reported that Jean is a great teacher!  Ruth has made wonderful progress learning to use her new machine.

Ruth has made two baby quilt tops with "Savannah:"  here's the first one.

Here's the second one. Way to go Ruth!

Jean was busy today cutting out Willie's to use as appliqué on some special project.
Jean showed this delightful wall hanging that she made for the son of a friend who passed away.
Close up of the cardinals....

Jean printed this wonderful saying for the back of the quilt.

DeeDee shared this creative piece made by stamping fabric with paint. Everyone is looking forward to the Dye-A-Thon coming up May 13th. We will get to make and use stamps to create fabric.

What is a "trash can quilt?" DeeDee confessed that this piece has been in the trash four times! The group agreed...this piece is not trash can worthy. Thread paint it! As Tim on Project Runway would say..."Make it work!"

More trash can quilts!  Oh no DeeDee..don't toss it! Jean said to use a rotary cutter and make lots of strips.  Jean offered to loan DeeDee her Viking machine to sew this fabric into shape!

Looks like this piece of fabric will go in the trash....

DeeDee received a birthday gift... a new quilted sketchbook cover from Deborah.  Fabric is from Mulberry Silks in Carrboro.
A look inside the sketchbook cover...pockets for storing pens and other drawing tools and a sketchbook!

Ruth B is making a bag for Rachel.

Close up of the cool fabric lining inside the bag...

Cheryl and Ruth B delivered the police support quilt to the Carrboro Police Department. This quilt was made by Ruth.

Cheryl and Ruth B delivered the police support quilt to the Chapel Hill Police Department. This quilt was made by Cheryl.

Jean shared this link to the Chatham County Sheriff's Department Facebook page where you'll find photos of Jean presenting the police support quilt to the Sheriff along with a wonderful post about the police support quilt.

Jean shared this personal thank you note for the police support quilt from Sheriff Roberson.

Only a couple of police support quilts left to deliver.  Deborah is waiting on the newly designed patch from the UNC Police Department. Joy will let us know when she delivers her quilt to the Hillsborough Police Department.

Candy used her new invisible thread from Wonderfil Threads  to repurpose a jacket and shirt for her son. The clothing had the logo from a former company he worked for...now it's a Tarheel fan jacket and shirt.

close up of the patches....
Candy showed some hologram thread, available from Wonderfil and Superior Threads.  Hologram thread gives your work a glow or a little glitter.

Ella shared that she is making a scrap lap quilt and plans to quilt it with feathers.
Another show from DeeDee...she made these large sofa pillows using Kaffe Fassett fabric and sewed a zipper in the side.

Everyone takes a look....nice work DeeDee.  Hey...where'd you get the pillow forms?  Kohls

Sewing tip of the week....this one from Jean...put some batting in the bottom of a box and your tiny squares stay more organized. Spools of thread don't roll around as much on this surface too.

Spring is near...look at this beautiful Flowering Pink Almond in DeeDee's yard.

Seven quilters including Britt had lunch at Vinny's.

Until next time...have sew much fun!
