5/25/17: CCLQ @ Jean's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  Seven quilters met at Jean's home this week. We were happy to have virtual participation from Ruth S and Joy this week! Several folks shared what they learned at NC Quilt Symposium, so stay tuned for some inspiration!

Jean prepared delicious Carrot Cake Pie!

Rick shared some awesome homemade sourdough bread and freshly picked sugar snap peas from the garden.

Every time we meet at Jean's home, there's a new quilt hanging in her kitchen. Jean made this spectacular quilt from neck ties.

DeeDee shared this photo of the five lovely pillows she created for her screened porch.
DeeDee plans to use this delightful cat fabric for her donation quilt for the Independent Animal Rescue Auction.

DeeDee auditioned border colors for the cat quilt project.
Here's a cute idea for a kitty or a puppy.

Jean finished this whimsical quilt for Willie's dog groomer.  It's composed of a collection of bandanas that Willie received after each grooming.

Jean shared this lovely quilt top made with tiny blocks and ombre fabric. She called it her summer nauseum quilt, but this one doesn't make her feel queasy. It sparkles!

Jean also shared that she's teaching a woman at Family House to quilt.   The woman is making a UNC quilt for her husband. Candy's neighbor donated a Baby Lock sewing machine to her.  Four folks at Family House are interested in quilting!

Joanna attended a NCQS class with Nicole Neblett and made this block. Nicole has a wonderful blog at Mama Love Quilts.
Joanna also created this wonderful modern wall hanging in Nicole's class.

Willie loved hanging out with the quilters!
Deborah purchased these threads at NCQS and plans to use them for embellishment on a future project.  These and other wonderful threads are available from Treadnuts.com.

One of the vendors at NCQS was Corinne Kerns, Deborah's first appliqué teacher from years ago.  Deborah purchased this wool felt sewing kit from Corinne.
Deborah, Joanna and Britt attended a lecture by Ann Holmes at NCQS. Ann is a stained glass artist and quilter who lives in Asheville, NC

Last week Deborah was planning to cut up this adorable Tabby Road fabric from Tula Pink to make a modern block style quilt.  During symposium, she pondered upon a tree and Big Magic happened....the "kittens up a tree" quilt emerged!

Cheryl shared her layout of twelve blocks for the wedding quilt...there are twelve more blocks in progress.  The question of the day was...should Cheryl add more yellow, green, and blue blocks to the quilt? The unanimous answer was "yes" and do so randomly.

Ruth B auditioned two border ideas for her stunning Twirling in Reverse quilt.

Most folks liked the wide border option the best.

Ella enjoyed hearing about NCQS and the show and tell from everyone.
Ruth S shared this photo of her finished baby quilt via a text message!  This quilt is for her niece in Boston.  Joy also joined in on the text messaging during our meeting.  Who knows... maybe we can do a group Skype one week.

Quilters enjoyed a yummy meal at Moon Asian Bistro.

Until next time....enjoy creating!
