1/30/2020: CCLQ at Jean's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week twelve quilters met at Jean's home.  Take a look at the wonderful progress from this creative group of women! Be ready for the BIG TELL!
The group enjoyed a delicious homemade Blueberry Buckle and other tasty snacks before the meeting.  Maggie took a look at an interesting tracing textile that Joanna brought to share.
Jean shared this adorable Koala mug rug that she made to support wildlife rescue in Australia due to the wild fires there. Click on the  link to read about this fund raising campaign.
A closer look
Jean created this beautiful bag.  Inside the bag is a plastic file bin to help the bag hold its shape.
Close up of the embroidery motif
Jean created another lovely bag.  The bottles are covered with vinyl to give the illusion of glass.  Tip from Jean....don't iron over vinyl!
Lynda was happy to share her progress on the elephant collage quilt.
Here's Lynda's wonderful elephant collage with the fabric fused in place on pattern ease.
Here's the elephant on the background. Lynda used  EZ Steam to fuse the fabric pieces to the pattern ease.
Drum roll please......

Are you ready for the BIG TELL?

Lynda announced that she and Britt have purchased Gayle's long arm machine!  The group applauded this announcement and everyone was so excited that the Gammill will stay in our quilting group family!
Gayle was excited to share this awesome painting of her grandson. Her daughter-in-law cried when Gayle sent a photo of the painting. This was Gayle's first portrait painting. Well done Gayle!
Deborah was overjoyed to share the 3D quilt top that she finished for her nephew!
Deborah purchased her first quilt kit!  The quilt is entitled, "Atmosphere" by Jason Yenter

The luscious fabrics in the kit included the book, Mystical Quilts, filled with patterns.
Candy made two new pillow cases to go with her new whole cloth white quilt.  Candy also has a new idea for her Malaysian fabric! She plans to do vertical panels with black fabric in between.
Ruth B reported that she's in a quilting lull right now.

Margaret started a new set of blocks in preparation for a workshop in Lancaster PA.
Here's the pattern
Maggie's gorgeous blocks are ready for the workshop!
Ruth S shared this lovely photo album that she and her grand daughter made together.  It celebrates Ruth's mother-in-law. Her grand-daughter is named after her great-grandmother.
Ruth completed the binding on the fish quilt. This is the back of the quilt.  Things were moving so fast, the photographer didn't get a shot of the front of the quilt.

Ruth also shared that Donna from The Bluff visited last week and they went to the NC Botanical Gardens.  Ruth loved seeing all the wild flower quilts...many of the quilts were made by quilters in our group. Donna enjoyed looking at the quilt and the botanical art work.
Joanna has Ella's quilt for her friend on the long arm!  We can't wait to see it!
Ella had no report today, but is also eager to see Joanna's creative work on her quilt.
Cheryl showed a color copy of this print from a calendar.  She plans to use Lynda's fabric collage method to make this piece.
Cheryl may start with these birds to perfect the fabric collage method.
Cheryl started the baby quilt and brought a colorful strip to show.
Since Cheryl added new fabric to her stash last week, she cleaned up and brought several bags of fabric and sewing supplies to share.
DeeDee worked on some quilting binding and tried to keep our large group focused so we could finish in time for lunch!

Until next time, happy quilting!
