6/27/24 CCLQ @ Gayle's

 Welcome!

Here are the highlights of this weeks meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.

Gayle started us off by showing her Starry Night mixed media quilt that is center of attention in the living room.

Maggie showed a donation baby quilt using 2.5" strips.

Cheryl had a great cool trip to the VA mountains and was able to visit the 2 shops in Abingdon.  She got a blue floral linen to make some napkins and a solid blue for a yoga mat cover as well as a flannel print of deer.

Carol is staying out of the heat and sewing up a storm from her plethora of colorful scraps.

Ella had a bag full of books, patterns, and notions up for grabs with the unclaimed items going to the Tuesday Group and Guild.

Deedee found a bag she made but has not been using and after deconstructing the pockets and handles had a brain storm to use it as a grocery tote and put back the handles.  The bag construction was woven batik strips so it's great to see it get another life.  She also shared some heart blocks made of a new project.

Linda is giving Gayle some childrens fabrics to make donation placemats that will be distributed to children by the DOQG similar to the Meals on Wheels adult placemats.

Linda asked the group what she might be able to do with some Silk material she received from friends traveling in China.  The back looks as good as the front.

Until next week ...

6/20/24: CCLQ at Carol's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.

This week at Carol's we all got a big welcome from "Big Boy", who loved the company.  He was a little sad that no goodies fell off any plates.  Gayle did share but that was so very long ago at the start of the meeting ... he just knew there was more where that came from.

Gayle has finished Starry Night and it is hanging on the wall at home and is ready for her Hosting next week.  She was given this left over piece of indoor/outdoor fabric from Deedee after she made pillows for her porch.  Gayle plans to make pillows as well.

Deedee had a great week at the beach and shared all her purchases from the Quilting at the Beach shop.  First is a photo of the pillow she made of the fabric gifted to Gayle.  Then follows her purchases: the panel of african animals, the birds and sail boat fabric will be a quilt for Harper and the panel for Noah's Arc with animals will be so cute and ready for play.

Stacy Iest Hsu panel designer

Deedee also shared information about an exhibit in Willmington at the Cameron Art Museum that starts with quilts from the 1800's made by enslaved women.

Candy has both quilts done and ready to gift to two deserving children friends that lost their father and could use a little comfort.  She also shared information about an exhibit in Old Salem. As found in the NC Art Museum

Lynda is packing up her sewing room inorder to accomodate a visit from the New Zealand grand children  (ages 12, 10, and 8) who are visiting in early July.  She is also researching Historic destinations nearby so the dual citizen children may learn more about the US.

Linda has finished going thru the last box of packed away treasures and now has an overflowwing fabric stash that is just waiting for the perfect projectS (that is a capital S ... it will take many projects to use it all up.  Such an unusual occurence for a quilter huh?)

Deborah has the bird panel blocks sashed and at the appropriate size.  Her math skills rose to the challenge ... now for the 6" blocks for the surrounding borders.   She also unearth a Car panel that was returned by Deedee but accepted by Carol who just so happened wanted to make a car theme quilt for a grandchild.  Speaking of grand kiddo's Carol has a blue/pink flora top ready for quilting that is for the baby on the way:  Madeline.  Spelling will be just like the books by Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962)

Maggie has her "Hoot" all finished.  From Wendy Sheppard -
 Owls See You Quilt Pattern

Cheryl B. was busy puttin the label on the back of a truely stunning applique quilt.  She also showed her Grandson's t-shirt quilt and then 2 quilts hot off the longarm frame that Shelia T. will be picking up later that day.

Ella has a top on the design wall about to be completed and ready for the deadline completion date of July 15th.

That's it for this week.

6/13/24: CCLQ at Maggie’s

 Reasons for Quilts!

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters.  This week quilters met on the porch at Maggie’s.  We had two surprise attendees, Joy and Cheryl B. Get ready for some amazing show and tell!  Updated June 20th.

Linda continues to work on organizing her sewing space and this week found this sweet kitty quilt that her daughter made at age 8.

Linda completed the quilt top for this lovely Round Robin quilt.

It was great to see Cheryl B! Cheryl manages to find time to quilt and take care of grandkids and is very busy! She finished this beautiful T-Shirt quilt for her grandson’s college graduation!

Cheryl recently purchased an embroidery machine.  She started the T-shirt quilt for her grandson’s high school graduation, but didn’t finish until he graduated from college…so there are two labels.

Cheryl is making an alphabet quilt on denim using old blue jeans.  This will be a quilt to take outside with the grandkids.

Here’s close up on one of the blocks from the Sweet Sixteen quilt designed by Edyta Sitar.

Cheryl has a couple of more blocks to finish on this one…isn’t it spectacular?

Can’t wait to see this one finished.

Cheryl loves making embroidered labels.

Cheryl has finished this extraordinary Elegant Garden quilt top also from Edyta Sitar’s book.

Cheryl added embroidery to this block.

Here’s another gorgeous quilt top. I think this one was A Quilt and a Prayer also from the Edyta Sitar book.

Joy made this tiny quilt called, “City Sun Showers” for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Last month’s challenge was “pink” and Joy and the prompt was “Derby.” Joy included beautiful rose fabric on the back.

The challenge for June was blue.

Carol made this adorable, colorful donation quilt.

Cheryl reported that she had a great time visiting her grandson in CA.  Her friend in California loved the quilt!

Candy shared this lovely quilt made for a friend’s daughter.

Lynda reported that she’s working on her Round Robin quilt.

Maggie finished this fun “Tin Man” quilt with a modern twist on yellow brick road border.

Wonderful backing fabric on the Tin Man quilt.

Maggie shared this spectacular wedding quilt made for her son and daughter in law. Pattern is “Radiance.”

Wedding guests at the reception wrote messages in the center blocks.

Beautiful quilting by Stacy.

Deborah reported that she had fun visiting the grandkids last weekend. Her granddaughter loved the Hattie doll!
