CCLQ Reacts/NT Joins in to Help Out

Joy was doing her Mod Job on Ravelry when she spotted THIS post:

Orlando - and Donations

"I’m not familiar with all participants in this group, therefore, not familiar with who is part of the Modern Quilt Guild.
I want to make sure as many people as possible see this:
My local guild is committing to one complete quilt, and if enough blocks come in, 2.
Coordinated efforts between piecers, long-armers, and binders will be required.
And just so it’s all in one place, bright colored hearts representing a rainbow of colors with low volume background,"

Then... sent an email suggesting that since we just mailed off our Maple Leaf blocks for the Ft. McMurray (Canada) fire victims, that members may be interested in taking on a new group project.

#QuiltsforPulse

Members responded positively!!

Word spread.  Soon our sister group wanted in on the action, thus...

CCLQ Pulse Quilt:

NT Pulse Quilt:

The pair of quilts headed for Orlando:

Thank you to the various members of CCLQ and NT who were able to help in the making of these two beautiful quilts for this project!!  Participants included Britt, Candy, Cheryl K., Deborah, Dee Dee, Ella, Helena, Jean, Joanna, Joy, Ruth B., and Ruth S.

These quilts were made after the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild asked for "a minimum of 102 quilts — one for each survivor, and one for the families of each victim who perished. Any quilts that surpass that number will be given to first responders, and then distributed to the LGBT community in Orlando via organizations like The Center and Zebra Coalition."

We are hoping that our contributions will bring comfort to someone touched by the senseless shooting in an Orlando night club on June 12, 2016.  The attack killed 49 people and injured 53 others.

Until next time...

8/20/16 - NTs in the Wild @ SECU Family House

Welcome to another edition of NTs in the Wild!!  This weekend, members of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee were spotted at a Sew Day at the SECU Family House in Chapel Hill.  Thank you to Candy, for arranging our use of the newly renovated Board Room and thank you to Family House for allowing us to use the beautiful space!!  We found that it worked even better for our purposes than the Solarium did last time.

Nine members enjoyed a day of fun, food, and sewing.  A number of people were unable to attend, but here are some (OK, a TON of) photos captured during the day.

CAPTIONS CAN BE FOUND BELOW EACH PICTURE!!!

Dee Dee and Ella collaborated on another CCLQ Donation Quilt.

Once the coffee was made, Candy set up her sewing area.

Jean set up a cutting area in the kitchen...

... and laid out her fabrics on a table near the iron.
She's working on Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majesty.

That CCLQ Donation Quilt is an old JoAnn Fabrics BOM.
Thank you for sharing, Ruth S.!!

Cheryl B. takes assesses Dee Dee and Ella's arrangement of blocks.

What do YOU think?!  Nice, huh??

Dee Dee greets Margaret on her way out to get (more) fabric.

Jean and Candy look on, as Britt explains the process she went through on Dorm Quilt #1.

The photo above shows the hand back stitching deemed necessary...

... due to the limited contrast between background and applique.

Everyone wanted to feel the swirl quilting!

Corner motif detail.

(Almost) the entire quilt.

A closer shot...

... Closer still...

... And a shot of the back of the quilt.

Trying to get a detail shot of the quilting from the back.

Margaret played on the floor... er... laid out a quilt top.

She also worked on binding a table topper.  (Wall hanging?)

Margaret quilted it with straight line quilting.

Ella pressed the fabric for the CCLQ Donation BOM Quilt.

Stunning!!  Smith Mountain Morning pattern by Bonnie Hunter.

Kirsten looks pretty pleased with the layout.

Cheryl B. went home to get the Janome that she forgot she had.

It's a Limited Edition that she got for $7.50!!!

Bias binding on Sandra's Panel Quilt.

Another of Sandra's quilts.

A detail shot of the INCREDIBLE stitching that Cheryl B. did!!

Cheryl B. shows Sandra's Angel Panel Quilt.

The photo above shows some of the stitching.

Cheryl also completed Sandra's Lord's Supper panel.

If you look closely...
You can see the added texture of Cheryl's quilting.

Britt insisted on getting a shot of Joy's newly completed
Calico Rick Rack quilt...

... Along with a detail shot of the quilting.

Proud Mama moment!

Full view of the Celtic Tree of Life design.

A better look at the intricate design.

Ta da!!  Kirsten finished the first row of Seminole Mountain.

Margaret did some stitching of binding.

Dee Dee added sashing to the BOM blocks.

Jean pressed and pressed and pressed some more!

Cheryl B. worked on this applique block.

Britt clipped threads and MORE threads.

Dee Dee trimmed up the sashing for the CCLQ Donation Quilt.

With squares all cut, Jean drew diagonals for making HSTs.

Joy trimmed (Diane's) scraps for Justquiltin's Barn Dance QAL.

Interesting shelving found in the bathroom.

Two painted 2 x 4's, stained planks for shelves, and L-brackets.

Jean is ready to sew... when she gets home to her machine!!

Look what else Cheryl B. is working on!!

Thank you to Kirsten for forwarding a better picture of her quilt blocks arranged on the bed in the Guest Quarters:

Seminole Mountain is going to be SPECTACULAR, Kirsten!!!
