2/20/2020: CCLQ at Lynda's

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow can stop those Cherry Creek Lane Quilters! Today's forecast included cold temperatures with rain turning into snow.  The school systems all closed in preparation for the snow, but the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters had their meeting and went to lunch since the weather was only cloudy with no precipitation.  The snow arrived later after everyone hopefully was home snuggled under a quilt.

Enjoy today's blog with links to silk painting techniques, wonderful quilt shops in Leland and Southport, NC, websites,  and words of wisdom. I forgot for whom the words of wisdom were intended. I always take notes during bee, and I'm sure everyone enjoyed getting some inspiration!

Today's photos were inspired by Rembrandt.  Please forgive the darker photos...the blogger is working with an very old cell phone camera.

Here's Lynda's wonderful elephant collage quilt with border options.
Lynda provided an extemporaneous trunk show of her work from the past. This is a charming wall hanging she made for her grandson.

Lynda shared several of her lovely silk paintings. This one used a golden resist.  For more information on silk painting technique...click here. It explains the resist technique.

Here's Lynda showing a silk painting with elephants.
Lynda paints on the silk and then creates a quilt complete with lovely thread and floral embellishments.

Maggie found this pattern and some wonderful kitty fabric at the Cotton Quilts in Southport, NC.

Candy ordered a bunch of spool savers from Amazon...not as great as she thought they would be so she may send them back.

Candy finished a couple of placemats... please forgive dark phot ;(
Candy finished this lovely Pecking Order quilt!
Joanna finished the quilting on Candy's geometric quilt.  Several folks have used this pattern and we didn't have a name for it.  Cynthia, past president of DOQ made a similar quilt and gave the quilt for an APS auction.  Deborah's sister in law, Bonnie won the bid for Cynthia's quilt at the auction.  Deborah borrowed the quilt to show the bee.  The group loved the pattern.  Cynthia couldn't remember the pattern name, so our talented Joanna used Equilter to draft a pattern. Today the group decided to call the pattern, Bonnie's Quilt. Let's hope we can remember that!

Ruth S created this wonderful crazy quilt style tree for the Bushfire Tree Blocks Project.

Ruth ordered Print N Fuse which allowed her to copy the pattern for her dragonfly quilt on the printer so no need for hand tracing each piece! Yay!  Don't you love finding out about new materials to make our creative process easier?  Thank you Ruth!
Carol created this new block when making a 60 degree triangle block.  The group had many ideas for this new block....add signatures and make a friendship quilt!

Jean started crocheting a new shawl.
Close up of Jean's new project.

Words of wisdom from Jean, "If it's a problem from four feet away, work with it!"

Mystery embroidery blocks from Jean...the group could not figure these blocks out!  Stay tuned for next week to see the reveal!

Joanna brought this awesome quilt made by Ella.

It was a mystery quilt from 2013!

Cheryl finished this wonderful loon quilt.

Cheryl's words of wisdom for today, "Don't stop."
DeeDee worked on binding a quilt today and shared these lovely blocks that are part of a charm pack leader and ender project. DeeDee shared information about a felt artist, Sharon Parker and a fun blog called Laugh Love Quilt.

DeeDee's words of wisdom for today, "Don't give into obsession!"
