3/5/2020: CCLQ at DeeDee's

The Cherry Creek Lane Quilters met at DeeDee’s on March 5th.

Everyone was excited to hear about the bus trip to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, VA.  Folks brought fabric and gadgets from the quilt show and lots of fun stories about the day long bus trip and show.  Hold on to your seats and enjoy viewing lots of photos! Bee sure to click on the links to find out about cool fabrics and sewing doodads.

Happy Birthday to DeeDee who has a birthday coming up next week!

Look what's happening in DeeDee's garden! New fencing and new pergolas.

Another view...possible quilt inspiration anyone?
Quilters were greeted by the view of this beautiful bird quilt made by DeeDee.

On the other side of the fireplace, DeeDee recently hung this wonderful whimsical chicken quilt. Ella came over and helped with hanging the quilts.

Ruth S was excited to show some extra Jason Yenter fabrics she purchased at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton VA. These will go with the Jason Yenter Atmosphere quilt.

Jean requested that we bring chocolate candy wrappers for a project that she's working on.....most of us forgot.  Ruth S to the rescue!  Ruth brought an entire box of chocolates for us to share and then give our wrappers to Jean! Jean explained that she saw a demo at the Quilt Festival and the project involves sewing the wrappers onto quilt batting with vinyl on top and then making a bag. Here's a similar tutorial from Missouri Star Quilting for a zipper bag.

Jean found this dazzling fabric at the Quilt Fest.  True confessions...a fourth member of this bee, namely Jean admitted that Ruth talked her into buying the Jason Yenter Atmosphere  quilt kit.

Jean also found this interesting way to buy fabric.  This piece is printed in fat quarters so you get a variety of prints or designs in each yard of fabric....umm...this looks like more than one yard.

Maggie shared one of her awesome blocks from the block of the month calendar project.
Maggie also showed us a homework assignment from her upcoming AQS class. It's another quilt as you go technique with a different way of making the sashing.
The sashing for this involves making a tube and pressing it with the seam in the back.  Notice the sashing in the prior photo and maybe this will make sense to you.

Ruth B is eager to go to the Pineapple Fabrics Sale to get more fabrics for her black and white quilt project.  Cheryl reported more today about finishing the tile backsplash kitchen project.

Carol found these whimsical blocks by P Carter Carpin at the Quilt  Fest.
Here's another adorable piece by P Carter Carpin, who is an artist from Richmond, VA.
Carol showed this wonderful guitar fabric which she plans to use to make something for her grandson.

Carol shares another wonderful panel which will be a fun quilt for one of her grandkids.  Carol also shared that she tried several long arm machines at the Quilt Festival and plans to purchase one in the future!
Carol is making good progress on her new blocks.
Joanna found this awesome un-sewing seam ripper at the Quilt Fest.  Check out this link if you want to find out more. It uses a razor edge for cutting and has a rubber tip for rubbing off all those itty bitty threads.

Deborah is cleaning up her sewing room. She opened up this 1941 Singer sewing machine which belonged to her grandmother, the grandmother that made so many beautiful quilts for her family. Deborah spent over an hour cleaning up the machine and researching how old it was and possible value. Does she donate it, sell it or fix it up and keep it?  The group agreed she should fix it up and keep it. The grandmother's flower garden quilt in the photo was made by Deborah's grandmother in the 1970's although it was hand pieced by her grandmother and then later hand quilted by Deborah's mom.

Until next time, happy quilting!
