Announcements...
Deborah and Dee Dee talked about the ICAD Challenge @ Daisy Yellow. Click on the link to find out more about the 10th Annual Challenge.
That Machine Quilting QAL with Natalia Bonner that Joy mentioned is nearing the end. Today was day 349 of the series! She introduced the One Block a Day... Using Machine Quilting Rulers on May 31st of last year. It started way back on June 1, 2019 and each day's post includes a link to the video series on YouTube. Apparently, the event was the precursor to her new book.
Show and Tell...
Linda reported that her mask production is ramping up. Her BIG news is that it's about FOUR WEEKS until retirement:
Joanna shared the blocks from last week are now a completed top:
Her cornerstone idea didn't work, as it made the quilt feel too busy:
... And showed her Kaffe Quilt, done, except for the four corners:
** Maggie offered her leftover Space fabric, which Lynda Mac gratefully accepted.
Deborah strung a birthday banner in Lynda Mac's honor today...
It's a light weight, sheer fusible that was leftover from another project:
Deborah told us that Dee Dee's blooming yellow iris are attracting Gold Finch to their yard. She has two planters to plant, but has been busy folding fabric and tidying up her sewing space.
Ruth B. has been planting and moving some things around in the garden. On the sewing front, her daughter asked for 8 more masks...
She, Candy, and Maggie met at Joanna's house the other day, as they had answered her call for Black and White fabrics. Here is Ruth B's design wall:
Joy...
... Shared a mug rug that she calls Spot the Bluebird:
Another mini was still in progress:
Candy started with some TELLS - She finally found toilet paper and her house keeper is coming tomorrow! :o))
She mailed off masks for her grandkids and came to the realization that she could choose stash fabrics that she no longer likes for inclusion in her donation quilts. Case in point, the dotty green below:
Candy picked up the donation quilt that Britt quilted...
... And here is a closer look at the quilting:
Carol told us about the 10 yards of mulch she had delivered. She's been spreading that and poison ivy relief, along with moving iris and day lilies to spots where they will get a bit more sun.
She has been adding to her Postage Stamp quilt project. This is 13 of the first 16 rows of the FIRST BLOCK:
** Deborah suggested a solution of 45% vinegar and orange oil to kill poison ivy. A hot, dry day is needed before and after application.
Maggie had some scraps to cut for the Tuesday night bee...
... She used stripes in the center of a Square in a Square block:
Since all of the blocks for the 1st row of her BOM were made...
... Maggie sewed them all together:
This is the pattern she's using:
Ella was working at her cutting table during today's meeting:
Ruth S. is leaving for NY on Saturday:
Before leaving, there were two projects that she wanted to complete. She finished this baby quilt...
Ruth S. took a trip to Wish Upon a Quilt for the final fabric needed to complete the top of her latest Bonnie Quilt:
She is taking a couple of projects and Savannah, but will see us next week for our Zoom meeting and her DH will come back for the table at a later date. It won't fit in the truck with all the stuff:
Jean announced that she was finished making masks and got a request for 30 more for the vet and will keep sewing them. She has her Elvira Quarantine QAL and a scrap quilt in the background:
Willie came to say hello to the quilters...
Jean used large HSTs quilt...
... To make a new Bunk Bed quilt:
Gayle finished her Circle Quilt and bought a dark gray bed skirt to go with it...
She told us that she was determined that the Disappearing 4-Patch With a Twist was NOT going to get the better of her...
... So she gave it another try and it turned out well:
Cheryl K. was equally determined...
... And managed to get the cutting for a D4P block done correctly with some changes to her tools used:
She worked on quilting this Baby Quilt...
... But shouldn't have, as she had mashed her finger in the door and really overdid it (causing more damage.) You can see why she wanted to finish is... The quilt is TOO cute:
Cheryl has also been doing yard work. The brick path is now complete from the south gate to the north gate of the garden. Inside, she is working on a potential quilt block for next week. More masks are in the works, but she needs elastic.
Dee Dee is cutting for the last round of her Storm at Sea blocks and assembly can begin once this round is done. Hoping to have the blocks done by next week (working on it 2 hours/day.)
She started to gather fabrics for Georgetown Poppies, but found her stash lacking...
... So, she sketched the design on fabric:
Here's a closer look:
More of the Inktense work:
Britt started off by sharing...
... Her latest abstract landscape quilt:
She moved it all around...
... So that we could...
... Get the full impact of the quilt:
... And sent a better photo for us to see:
Please contact Joy with any corrections or additions to today's meeting notes. Thanks!
Until next time...
SEW safely!!!
