5/7/20 - CCLQ @ ZoomBEE - Week 8

Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  It's hard to believe that we've been meeting this way for nearly TWO MONTHS.  Thank you to Deborah for setting up our Zoom sessions and to Candy for serving as our hostess for today's meeting.  There were 15 members in attendance.

Show and Tell...

Jean...

... Has been making face masks for kids:

She has made progress on her new Willie quilt...

... And has been auditioning fabrics for the panel she purchased on the Guild bus trip to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in February:

Over on the left of her design wall, Jean had her version of the Elvira Quarantine Quilt Along and a scrap quilt in the works using some leftovers from 90's Nancy Crow ombre quilt:

She also had a TELL - After 283, Jean is finally DONE with making fabric face masks!  She is ready to move on.

Candy...

... Shared her completed Mod Fish project:

She changed the eyes by adding buttons:

Candy enjoyed the project so much that she will now give the Mod Cat pattern a try:

She offered a selection of batiks to the group for mask making:

Thank you to Joanna for sharing them with her...

... And anyone else...

... In the group to make use of them:

Candy had a TELL (or rather an ASK) - Her cutting mat has seen better days.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a new one?

** Jean highly recommended Alex Anderson's cutting mat.
** Maggie recommended that Candy first try "reconditioning" her old mat by soaking it in the bathtub.
** Someone suggested NOT a Martelli mat!!  It is the worst of all.

Deborah...

... Developed a plan for the project she is working on with her other Bee:

She shared her special Mother's Day gift...

... And is hoping to find a good pattern to use with this ombre fabric:

Deb had a TELL - She heard that Find X Designs and Wish Upon a Quilt are OPEN for a "Parking Lot Personal Shopper" experience.  An assistant will bring bolts out for your selections.

TELL2 - She got a video of a baby bird flying from the nest.  Reminded her of a special memory about a poem that her mother wrote.

Deborah sent a better photo of the pillow for her DH:

Britt...

Photo Currently Unavailable!!

... Had a TELL - She is loading a donation quilt that Candy brought over for her to quilt on the longarm and she almost has her THIRD Blooming 9-Patch quilt top together.

SHOW - She just finished designing this abstract landscape quilt:

She backed up to give us a wider view...

... And brought it in for a close-up:

Dee Dee...

... Told us about her latest project out in the yard.  She is creating a brick path in the back.  During today's meeting...

... She worked on her Storm at Sea project and is only 4 blocks away from starting the next round:

Here is a close-up of Dee Dee's fabrics:

She is thinking about using this design to make a pillow:

Dee Dee also did a bit of  (online) retail therapy at 5bucksayard.com for some some super sweet deals.  She found this adorable cat fabric...

... Along with these darling birds.  Porch Pillows, anyone?

If memory serves me correctly, these life-like birds may become couch pillows in the near future:

Carol...

... Has been channeling her inner Joy by working on a Postage Stamp quilt made from 1.5" squares:

Ella got photo bombed by Barry...

She asked that we recommend patterns for Bonus HSTs:

She showed one of six blocks that she made for Joy's friend Alycia:

Thanks, Ella!!

Britt shared this option that both she and Joy used with their leftovers from Pecking Order quilts...

... And this one that Britt offered to help with the math:

A similar pattern can be found at the following link for the Jumbo Prism Floor Pillow from Lee @ Freshly Pieced.

Maggie...

... Showed of her May block:

Her latest quilt was on display:

She show pictures of the race medal she won earlier in the week:

Maggie sent a photo of her professor BIL's marathon T-Quilt top:

She participated in a Ran Solo/May the 4th Be With You race:

... And got a Millennium Falcon (?) race medal:

Joy...

... Had a little trouble with her connection...

... But Deborah and Maggie talked her thru how to get back to the meeting so that she could share her 6 things completed in the first week of May.  One each day beginning with...

Bluebird {{House Warming}}:

VINTAGE {{Dressed}} (Project QUILTING Q.3) Challenge:

A Quilt for Doll Baby:

Put the "L" in Pillow:

Orange Co. Barn Quilt Mug Rug:

Improv Barn Quilt Wall Hanging:

Linda...

... Had a TELL - A terrible time with her Zoom meeting the other day!  She scheduled 2 meetings back to back, but the first one ran long and she had to leave to join the 2nd meeting.  EXCEPT... She couldn't get out of the one to join the other.  She eventually ended the first one (which was still going on - whoops!) and was able to join the second.

Linda had another TELL - She's been getting emails from Calla Lily Quilts in Greensboro.  They are OPEN (as an essential business during COVID-19) for 3 customers at a time, from 11 AM - 3 PM, Monday - Saturday.  They are also offering curbside pick-up.

Gayle...

... Is doing something she said she'd NEVER do!!  She's quilting a large quilt on her domestic sewing machine:

Gayle sent a photo of her recent Pineapple Fabrics fix.  She bought a backing for her new quilt:

Ruth S...

... Is preparing to head back to The Bluff, but shared a photo of her latest Bonnie Quilt on the design wall:

She also sent a better photo of the quilt in progress:

Lynda Mac...

... Had visitors with her today.  Dusty wasn't shy:

Last week she cut out a new quilt from this Kaffe book:

Fuchsia and orange.  Her "Old Lady" quilt for her 80th birthday:

Lynda Mac also had a TELL:  After 44 years, her Kitchen Aid mixer died, so she ordered a new one.  Also, she finished the Bird Runner for her sister and it fits exactly where she thought it would.

Joanna...

... Has a new quilt (Zen Garden from an old magazine) up on the bedroom design wall.  She and Hubby really like it...

... Although, the directions call for putting it together row by row:

Joanna also had a TELL:  Two hummingbirds are back!  That's down from the seven that were there last year.

Ruth B...

... Had technical difficulties before finding a spot that worked...

... She had nothing to show, but had a TELL - Her son came for a visit.  They made cloth masks together.  He cut while she sewed.  BEST.  Weekend.  EVER!!!  Ruth B. glowed at telling the story:

Virtual Additions...

... Were included above.  Thank you to all who sent better photos than I could get between all the oohs and aahs.  Please send any corrections needed for today's post to Joy.

Until next time...
Bee SEW safe!!
