3/13/21 - NT (Virtual) Sew Day - Making Faces with DeeDee and Karen W.

Welcome to the March edition of the Nimble Thimbles (Virtual) Sew Day!!  What a day we have in store.  Special thanks to Dee Dee for volunteering to lead us through today's group project!

Morning Group Photo...

Students were "feeling their Wheaties" this morning, as today we are making Faces...

Pre-class Show and Tell...

Deborah showed a Face quilt made years ago:

... Inspired by a painting:

The quilt was made for a challenge...

... With an Art Bee she belonged to back then:

Ruth S. created a shamrock to add to her Face quilt:

Roll Call...

Deborah:

Dee Dee:

Maggie:

Joy:

Ruth S:

Ruth B:

Kirsten:

Our guest, Karen W:

Britt...

... And Linda were tardy:

Let the games begin...

Our instructor/cheerleader/hand-holder, Dee Dee, shared her Face quilt as inspiration for students:

Our guest, Karen W., shared her paper version:

Several of us shared our background choices:

Dee Dee worked on piecing a UFO:

Everyone was working at their own pace:

Quilters ebbed and flowed throughout the morning...

The fun continued after lunch...

Karen W. took a photo of her project to see where to go next:

Britt tested out eyebrows on her own face:

Ruth S. is making progress..

... As is Joy:

Deborah is blazing a trail for the rest of us:

Ruth B. was ready to begin filling her background...

... When Linda joined the meeting:

Kirsten's Face quilt is getting a garnet shirt (and is sure to have something gold added, as well):

Britt has eyebrows and is trying this eye on for size:

(Potential...) Eyelashes for Britt's eyes, shown above...

... And testing out those eyes:

And then there were two:

Dee Dee kindly provided a selection of eyes for us:

Britt added a nose:

Karen shared her progress...

Hair:

Eyes:

Nose:

And mouth:

Not long after...

Joy had the entire group dissolving into a fit of laughter over these overly large eyebrows:

Britt...

... And Deborah offered some eye fabrics, if anyone needs them:

Speaking of Deborah...

She has made some additional progress:

Look at her fruit and vegetable necklace:

Afternoon Group Photo...

Work continued...

Joy is working on taming those eyebrows, while adding to her eyes:

Britt tested out some eye shadow:

This is what Maggie has been working on today:

Joy suggested purple for the cornerstones...

... And asked about this nose:

Karen is deciding how to use this "Sammy" fabric, which resembles her own little dog:

Maggie tried out Britt's suggestion and added the border print, set on-point, to mimic the alternate blocks of the quilt:

Nice hair, Britt!  You may want to add a bit more:

This is a little better:

Meanwhile...

Kirsten is planning to add Corgis to her hair...

And since she's a diehard FSU Seminole fan, this will be her nose:

Ruth B. is auditioning eyes...

... As Joy is auditioning nose options, along with hair and clothing:

Drum roll, please...

Maggie has completed her quilt top:

Karen chose to stitch out her chin line...

... And has been busy adding embellishments to her Face quilt:

Apparently, Sammy is being carried away by a butterfly:

SMILE, Joy!!!  I'm sure you could ALL see this coming:

Britt added some flowers in her hair and a little bird on her shoulder:

Keeping busy all afternoon...

Kirsten is also onboard with the idea that cell phone photos are the way to go with this project, as it gives you a different perspective:

Britt is thinking about altering her background:

Kirsten shared the of her Face quilt:

Britt is coming unglued:

Ruth B. was lamenting the fact that she had no travel fabric, so Kirsten (?) offered airplanes:

Dee Dee is making progress on her quilt top:

When holding up her quilt to share, Karen realized that she placed her backing fabric upside down:

She has gotten SEW much done on her Face quilt...

And is now contemplating borders:

Kirsten is ready to add lips to her Face quilt...

... And shared the tea pot fabric that she found in her stash:

Dee Dee is SEW happy with the progress her students have made:

Britt decided that her hair needed to be fuller and added extra strands:

Monkey came for a visit:

Ruth B. has made some progress with choosing her facial features:

Karen switched gears and showed the donation quilt she's making:

More hair and Joy decided her Face needed glasses:

And then there were three...

Britt gave an impromptu demonstration of Rug Twining:

And then there were two:

Britt shared the extra branches add to the tree quilt:

Later...

Dee Dee shared a photo of her day's progress:

What a wonderful day!!!  Thank you, again, Dee Dee!!  We are SEW glad you accepted Gayle's suggestion that you lead us in making Faces of our very own.

Until next time...
BEE busy!!!
