Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters. This week the group met at the Passmore Center with Candy hosting with some delish cookies.
We had a lot of chit chat between Cheryl, Ruth, Linda, Margaret, and Candy.
Margaret showed 3 quilts. The Colorful Cloud was quilted by Stacy at Over the Moon Quilts with a wonderful rain drop motif.
Stacy also did the quilting on the Macaroon Mystery.
Margaret showed the batik beauty quilt again before giving it as wedding gift.
Pictures don't do justice to the quilting done by Britt. The back was made with a bunch of half squares that fell behind the sewing desk when doing the front piecing.
Candy shared a few pieces she got while working in the Peace Corps. The technique is a reverse applique where a piece of fabric with the color that is wanted is placed under the top layer then the design is cut out of the top layer to reveal the color for the design. An art form unique to the Cuna Indians on San Blas Island, Panama, these reverse applique pieces (pictures made by overlaying many different layers of colored cloth, and cutting through the various layers to form pictures or designs) have been collectible for years and are now appreciated as an art form. Some were intended as decorations for blouses or other items of clothing, but the panels are now created as art in its own right. |
These 6 pieces are not made the same but are printed fabric to look like the applique Molas above.
Candy also came across a jacket she got years ago while working in Asia with the Peace Corp. The intricate design was amazing.
Linda shared her stack of quilt pattern post cards from Villa Rosa Designs.
