2/13/16 - NT @ Ruth B's

Welcome to the February meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  9 members met a Ruth B's house for a morning of quilting fun.  We began with a buzz of chatter, moved on to coffee and scones, and finally began the meeting.

What's THIS?!?!  We actually had a bit of business to discuss...

OLD BUSINESS:

Calendar issues...  Mary Jo's Trip???  Since Jean's scheduled date was up in the air, we have decided to postpone her turn until the 2nd half of the year.  SATURDAY, April 9th will be our annual Mary Jo's Adventure.  Please contact Joy, if you plan to attend.  Bonus Points, if you can drive!  :o))

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Margaret and Carol are both recovering from surgery.  Speedy recovery, you two!!

2. Hampton Road Quilt Show is coming up.  Several of us are planning an overnight trip.  Contact       Britt, if you are interested in participating.

3. Members of CCLQ had an idea... Quarterly UFO/Donation Days for the entire NT family.

Possible locations to be considered:

Cheryl B.
Britt
Family House Solarium
Spoonflower Greenhouse
Hillsborough Library

We would alternate the purpose of our Sew Day and (at least) half of the events will align with our monthly meeting.  Adding too many extra days may prove to be a strain on our calendars.

SHOW AND TELL...

Britt started us off by shared her recently completed Allietare Mystery quilt top:

She only had FOUR INCHES of that outer border fabric leftover!!!  Whew!!!

Helena was with us today! Look at the beautiful phone cover that she got over the holidays:

Linda finished her Shot Cotton couch quilt:

Gayle did the quilting:

Linda finished the top of her Snowball Pinwheels quilt:

Here's a closer look at her Polka Dot Pinwheels:

LOOK what she made with the off-cuts:

These are SEW cute:

Linda used the trimmings shown below to make these units (used in the block shown above):

She also had a TELL:  She has decided on what she will do for this year's Class Quilt!  The class will them draw themselves as Super Heroes and they will each write about their two super powers.

Candy brought her Woven Table Runner for the Saturday group to see (in person):

She was surprised to find which side she liked best:

Candy also made another Braid Runner by GE Designs Iceland.  It's a 2002 pattern that was a hostess gift for an upcoming trip:

The pattern begins in the center and is done quilt-as-you-go style:

Candy used Jacquie Gering's techniques to quilt this Donation Quilt (which she brought for Dee Dee to take to Guild with her):

She's getting ready to do the binding...

... of THIS quilt...

... By MACHINE!!!  I believe that Joanna did the quilting on this one:

Ruth B. has been shopping online, again.  These are from Thousand of Bolts:

She shared the photo of her Bluff Challenge piece along with her completed wall hanging:

Ruth B. was the only one to remember to bring her Bluff Mystery:

Britt was able to get a closer shot of it.  Well done, Ruth!!  It turned out beautifully:

Ruth S. stopped by to take her grandson's quilt off the bed on the way to today's meeting:

Gayle did the quilting:

The block is put together on the diagonal with 4 "hash marks" in each half:

Ruth S. also complete another Bluff Block for her wall hanging:

This block is Charlie's Cottage:

Dee Dee has been making Bird Blocks:

The pattern is from the Patchery Menagerie blog found two or three weeks ago:

These birds are SEW sweet:

Jean got a new copy of the Willie photo because Spoonflower had used some new ink...
that people REALLY didn't like:

She also brought the yardage:

And the "strange" 4 - headed Willie photo manipulation:

Jean brought along her completed Dresden on Steroids.  The more she looked at it, the less pleased she was about the spot...

... Where the quilting lines converged, so she covered it with a personalized heart for the recipients:

Jean also found a REALLY cool bag pattern at DesignsByHeidi just keep scrolling until you see it:

And talked about the way Christine Barnes adds bits of black with her colors to add drama.  Jean asked that I provide a LINK:

Joy didn't have anything to show, but she did try to find a new home for THIS book:

She thought it might be one that she hadn't seen, but found that it was a collection of the first three books in the series (which are already her bookshelf.)  If YOU would like to have this to read, please contact Joy SOON (and she will take it out of the donation stack.)

Until next time...
Quilt Happy!!!
