12/10/16 - NT Holiday Pot Luck @ Carol's

WARM WINTER WISHES
TO ONE AND ALL!!

Welcome to this year's Nimble Thimbles Holiday Feast!!  Our Pot Luck at Carol's Christmas house is everyone's favorite meeting of the year.  There were THIRTEEN members in attendance. Surely, that is some sort of record for this event!

Carol sets a festive mood with decorations is EVERY room...

We started off with lots of chatter...

Followed by a little bit of business...

Take note!!  Gayle offered to host the June meeting on 6/10/17.  Dee Dee may want to switch dates for the May meeting due to a conflict with NC Quilt Symposium.

Please notice... Helena and Ruth B. were the first to arrive!!!  LOL!!  THAT doesn't happen very often.

Britt will take the lead on a Shop Hop in lieu of our annual trip to Mary Jo's.  Jean will find out more about a trip to QuiltCon in Savannah instead of a trip to Hampton.

And a fair amount of Show and Tell...

(Editor's note:  Details from this portion of the meeting will be added later, but I wanted to get this posted.  Sorry for the delay!)

Joy:

Oh, Christmas Tree,

Oh, Christmas Tree!

Margaret:

TELL - She bought Jean's machine and is thrilled with it!

She made this Table Topper:

Candy:

Shared these Table Toppers of a similar shape:

TELL:  Daughter will be hosting a Craft Fair in Cameron Village and would be happy for us to make things to sell.  See Candy for details on the April 2017 event.

Margaret:

Santa's Boot Cookie Holder:

Britt:

TELL - She's playing with a paper Christmas Tree.

Sent around a photo of her Jamestown Landing quilt.  It's nearly done:

PHOTO CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE!!!

Ruth S.:

Vintage Hankie Wall Hanging:

Look closer for a view of the antique buttons from a friend whose husband won one of those "storage wars" and these buttons were among the "loot" found:

Gayle:

Told the story of her request for Birthday Blocks from the Thursday Girls.  No size requirements, just any block they wanted to make...

HERE is the completed quilt...

... Along with some close-ups:

Carol:

Her boss of 23 years is retiring.  She will be making Friendship Stars in batiks.  Just getting started on the project:

(Margaret suggested that Carol bring scraps for people to sign at the retirement party - as a reason for not having the quilt done.)

Kirsten:

TELL - In the process of planning for an addition on her house. Her sewing room is currently being used as a storage facility.

She's knitting, since she can't get to her sewing room:

Cheryl K.:

Autumn Table Runner made with scraps and stash for Thanksgiving:

Holiday Wall Hanging which she tried to quilt with feathers after Jean's workshop, but ripped them out and Jacquie Gering'd it:

Cheryl used a "feather" decorative stitch on her machine in the borders of the quilt:

Got some more fabric for her son's quilt during the Thread Runs Through It field trip:

This may be the pattern that she will use:

Jean:

Brought along her completed Nausea Quilt with Ultimate (Hyper) Quilting like Patsy Thompson

Here is a look at the feathered border...

... IMAGINE!!  All this work for Willie's Cuddle Quilt:

Looks like Ruth B. would be happy to have the dog's quilt!!  I believe any of us would be pleased with it.  Jean said there is still more quilting to be done in the centers of the blocks:

Candy:

Stockings for "the kids" to have at her house:

Linda:

TELL:  She sewing now that her room is set up in her new house!!  She's working on the Bonnie Hunter Mystery (along with several other Nimble Thimbles) and a Tree Skirt for her niece.  She found an extra Tri-Recs ruler (and Joy claimed it.)

Ruth B.:

Twirling in Reverse is the proper name for the quilt that she's been working on.  (Sorry, Ruth for calling it by the wrong name!!)

Only TWO blocks missing (due to spinning the wrong way.)  Ruth will be making it a 5 x 6 Wall Hanging with sashing and borders:

This year, members decided to do a FQ Exchange...

Candy started us off (and it went downhill from there!) LOL...

Kirsten, Ruth B., and Joy forgot, but will share the extra pack that Margaret brought along... just in case someone forgot.  (Thanks!!)

Carol had us draw numbers.

Linda got "stolen from" and had to choose again.

The rule was no more than 3 steals per bag!

Margaret got "stolen from" and had to choose again.

PIGS!!!

Oh, the decisions!!

DONUTS!!!

Ruth B. and Joy teamed up and also got "stolen from" and had to choose another FQ pack:

There were 10 steals.  I could list them, but chose not to.
All in all, we had a wonderful time and lots of laughs.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE NIMBLE THIMBLES!!!

Wishes from afar:

Carol received a text from Dee Dee during the meeting.  Her TELL - Having a great time in Hilton Head!!

Thanks for thinking of us Dee Dee!  Hope to see you soon.
