9/7/17: CCLQ at Britt's

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters. Nine quilters met this week at Britt's house. Be prepared for lots of show and tell this week! Hope you enjoy all the beautiful creativity and wisdom from this group.

Britt not only made gluten free chocolate black bean cupcakes......

but also made gluten free chocolate chip donuts!  Double yummy!

We were so glad to see Jean at bee! Jean was busy deconstructing silk shirts from the thrift shop to use in a quilt project.  Wonder what she'll make?

Tip of the week from Jean:  Angela Walters has a great YouTube on machine quilting.
Jean shared photos of "Jean's Quilt Camp."
These girls have made adorable quilted dog coats during quilt camp at Jean's.

Campers at Jean's Quilt Camp selected these fun fabrics for a Halloween table runner....a surprise for their mother!

These happy campers also made draw string duffle bags.

Deborah was inspired by last month's DOQ speaker who talked about how to tackle UFO's....UnFinished Objects.  This is a quilt top that was hand appliquéd by Deborah's grandmother and hand quilted by her mother.  Turns out Deborah has two of these quilts.  One was given to her by her aunt.  The story goes, Deborah's grandmother and her aunt went shopping in Lillington, NC.  They saw a raffle quilt in a store window.  Deborah's aunt really liked the quilt. Deborah's grandmother sketched the pattern and said, "I'll make you one."  Deborah's mom was a little jealous, so her grandmother made a second quilt too. All Deborah had to do was make binding and sew it on!  Done!

Gayle shared this wonderful appliqué that she designed.  She was allergic to the wool background fabric so started over using a cotton background and it's working beautifully.
Tip of the week from Gayle:  put a different quilt from your collection on your bed each month.
Gayle plans to appliqué this design on opposite  corners.  She will quilt the appliqué design on the blank corners. If this description doesn't make sense...stay tuned for subsequent blogs so you can see the end result!

Gayle showed these delightful Razzle Dazzle threads by Ricky Tims.

DeeDee and Britt had fun one day doing leaf printing.  They were inspired by a Jay Lee tutorial.

Who needs to buy or make something to use for printing, when nature has all we need?

Wonderful composition!

DeeDee purchased this fun sea creature quilt pattern.

Ella has been working on free-motion quilting on a UFO quilt. Ella reminded folks about the Pineapple Fabric sale on September 21st.   That will be a Thursday, so some folks may want to take a road trip instead of bee????
Joy and Jean also had fun doing some printing!

swirly colors

Tantalizing triangles will be used to make a cover for a book.

Joy purchased this amazing quilt top in Monroe, GA and had it quilted in Washington State. It's the same hexagon pattern that Cheryl B just completed last week!

Britt showed her leaf prints.
wonderful textures

Here Britt added some finger prints and rubbing to the leaf prints.

Interesting  combination

Britt made this awesome string quilt!

Britt used Sheer Delite as the foundation for the string quilt.
Cheryl B worked on her appliqué project.
Deborah bought this fabric online and the scale was too big.  Turns out it matches the appliqué project that Cheryl B is working on...maybe it will work for a back for Cheryl's quilt!

Tip of the week from Cheryl B:  "sing or talk rhythmically while free motion quilting. Find a flow, find what speaks to you and be consistent. Use a visual...for example, if you're quilting circles, look at a picture of a circle or a cup the size that you want to quilt."

Candy finished quilting the play quilt for Lily!
What a fun backing for Lily's quilt!

Candy shared the quilt top for baby Noah. Candy's not happy with the border.  Advice from  the group:  Quilt it and you'll love it or sell it and make another quilt.

One more print from Joy...this was her excess paint paper!

Britt offered to host a work day on September 16 or 17 for making pillow cased for Hurricane victims. More to come on this.

Ruth B joined us for lunch at Pueblo Viejo in Hillsborough.

Until next week.....happy happy quilting!
