9/27/16 - NT Nights @ Hboro Library

Welcome to the September meeting of the Nimble Thimbles evening quilt bee!!  There were 8 of us in attendance and we welcomed a guest/new member.  I'll get to the introductions later.  First, let's see what everyone has been working on during the month...

Margaret set up a clip light in order to see the circles she was appliqueing to the center of her newest quilt:

Karen had on some quilty looking shoes:

What's this???

Britt made ANOTHER Trail Tote:

This one was done in a nice neutral with a pop of color inside:

Britt played courier for our friend, Diane, who had a bag of scraps for Joy... who shared a few as a delivery fee of sorts:

Since our last meeting, she and Joy went on a grand adventure to visit the Western North Carolina Quilt Guild and join them for a class with Deborah Boschert.  Joy has been following her blog for quite some time and was excited to find a class closer to home than at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas (where Deborah will be teaching this year!)

Here is Britt's Class Quilt:

And THIS is Joy's Class Quilt...

... Along with her selection of embroidery floss for embellishment:

NOTE:  If you EVER get an opportunity to hear a lecture or take a class with Deborah Boschert, don't let it pass you by.

DO IT!!!  She is FABULOUS!!!

Karen has been busy:

Smile, Karen:

THIS shot shows the quilt from a better angle:

Leslie quilted her third quilt:

Here is a straight-on look:

Joy took a tour through that bag of scraps and fell in love:

I think Bo believes that Joy has lost her mind:

She didn't bring anything to share (or work on) tonight:

Karen was busy stitching down binding...

... As was Leslie:

Joy showed off the fabrics that she bought (NOT for her) on the way to the mountains...

... And a few that ARE for her that she bought on the way back:

Welcome, Karen V:

Kirsten was able to join us this evening and busied herself knitting:

Margaret shared a bit of quilting magic, turning bits of fabric...

... Into a hexagon on the back...

... And a hexagonal flappy coaster (?) on the front:

What you didn't hear from these pictures is the  surprise in Karen V. and Bo's voices, as they realized that they knew each other from years ago.  (No wonder they each looked familiar to the other!!)

It turns out that their daughters were good friends when they were young!  Moves tore them apart, but now they find themselves living (for all intents and purposes) right around the corner from each other.  How cool is THAT?!?!?

Until next time...
Spread the love of quilting!!!

9/22/16 CCLQ @ Deborah's

Remember last September?  Several of the quilters in this group packed up our sewing machines and traveled all the way to Wolcott, NY on Lake Ontario to visit Ruth S.  What a wonderful, wonderful quilting retreat!  Ruth thought of everything to make our adventure an exceptional one.

Thanks to Joy for creating this wonderful blog...I encourage you to go back and review the wonderful posts about CCLQ at the Bluff!

Sunset over Lake Ontario September 2015

This week six Cherry Creek Lane Quilters met at Deborah's. Today's treat included strawberry bars, a version of the Raspberry Bars recipe.

Candy worked on the binding for a Very Hungry Caterpillar Quilt made by a friend.

Jean worked on the half-square triangles for her majestic mountain quilt.

Ella brought a bundle of patterns to donate the DOQ's NC Quilt Symposium gift bags.

Dee Dee shared this delightful antique quilt that she found for a bargain price at Alamance Hospice Flea Market Shop.
Notice the cheddar orange fabric.
Look at that hand quilting!
Dee Dee showed her completed bird quilt top. But wait...take a closer look at what DeeDee has planned for this delightful quilt.
Dee Dee stenciled feathers....

berries, wood grain....
and berries with color as possibilities for the brown spaces and maybe border? Stay tuned to see the next reveal.

Ruth B worked on her applique project and had a tell about dishwasher disasters!

Deborah showed the fabric she purchased at the Thimble Pleasures estate sale for Diane.
Deborah also showed the completed quilt top for her sister in law...now on to the quilting!!!
Ella recommended a new restaurant in Carrboro...Sushi Nikko.  We were so happy to have Gayle join us for lunch! We miss you Gayle!!!

Reminder...please bring your designs for the support quilts for our local police officers.

Until next time.....there's a chill in the air....time to get quilting!!!!

9/17/16 - NT @ Jean's

Welcome to the September meeting of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Bee!!  Thank you to Jean for hosting our group of nine members today.  We were greeted with a plate full of DH's home baked rolls (to tease us until lunch.)

NOTE FROM Dee Dee:  Orlando Modern Guild scroll down to see Pulse quilts or see them on Instagram at #Quilts for Pulse.

We were also greeted by THIS beautiful "Kitchen Quilt":

Have a closer look at the newest in Jean's collection:

Lots of chatting before the meeting began:

Several conversations...

... Going on at once:

In the midst of it, Willie was working the crowd:

Show and Tell...

... Began with Ella and her Peacock Panel Divided:

She also made another Stash Quilt...

... And created a background...

For a new applique project:

Carol worked on quilting her grandson's Halloween Quilt:

After missing some meetings, Gayle returned with a vengeance...

... with two purses that she patterned after one of her favorites:

She also brought along a set of Bowl Cozies:

HERE are some shots of the purse detailing.

Including...

... An interior pocket...

... And a "wallet pocket" on the front:

Gayle also made an iPad cover:

She used a button and a hair band for the closure:

She also made a Double-sided Scrappy Pillowcase:

THIS is the flip side:

Jean shared some new silk thread...

... As well as, her "Nausea" Quilt - now contained by a border:

Jean also shared the traditional folk art pieces received as favors at a Vietnamese wedding that she and her DH attended recently:

It's custom bag season at Criminal Knits... where it would be a crime not to knit along!  Joy completed these this week...

... Then went on an adventure, which included a bit of shopping:

Britt discovered a new-to-her process for making stamps:

She and Joy took a class from Deborah Boschert:

THIS is her Class Quilt:

Before breaking for lunch, Britt did a zipper demo to share the techniques used in the Trail Tote by Noodlehead...

First, sharing her Mother's completed bag:

Then when walked us through the steps:

HERE is a close-up of how the zipper is positioned:

For her niece's bag, she altered the pattern:

Inserting the zipper on the interior of the bag to preserve the print on the exterior:

THIS is the flip side:

Getting the positioning just right is a bit tricky:

The outside...

... And inside of yet ANOTHER bag:

Britt also applied a patch pocket with an accent fabric:

It's pretty amazing that these bags come from a half-sheet of paper:

Jean brought down an example of the sticky-backed foam sheets for creating your own rubber stamps:

Willie is exhausted from all this quilty talk:

Hooray!!  It's time to taste those BEAUTIFUL rolls:

But first, Willie's Show and Tell...

Here is a photo of him at a recent Dog Show in Raleigh.  Will the REAL Willie, please stand up:

LOOK, ya'll!!  Helena completed a project:

She is modeling her own (AWESOME!!) Trail Tote:

Until next time...
Just keep quilting!!!
