9/8/16 - CCLQ @ Ella's

Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  Our hostess for today's meeting was Ella and just LOOK what she had waiting for the SIX of us in attendance:

FRUIT PIZZA!!!
(With or without fresh mint.  Thank you for that, Ella!)

First, there was TELL...

Joy was pleased to announce that DS2's Grave's Disease is in remission.  He is off his thyroid medicine until/unless his symptoms resurface.

Joy also had news about DS2's musical endeavors at UNC Chapel Hill.  He won the spot for bass trombone on the UNC Jazz Band. Way to go!!!

And then there was pre-SHOW...

Joy found that Ella has a new monogram thread rack in her sewing room.  You can order the letter of your choice from beaquilter at her Etsy shop:

Ella was excited to show us her BEAUTIFUL Round Robin Quilt:

Complete with coordinating pillows:

With wonderful attention to detail:

HERE is a closer look at the center:

Then we got down to business with SHOW, SHARE, and ASK...

Dee Dee had a bag of scraps for Joy:

Deborah completed her Fidget Quilt:

Cheryl K. stitched down binding on her Bird Quilt:

(Thanks to Britt) Joy made a Trail Tote. Complete with zippered pocket, magnetic snap, and snazzy adjustable strap hardware:

Dee Dee showed off her Left Facing Birds...

... Along with the sashing and border fabrics:

The group "gave Cheryl the hand" as she started to point out "errors" in the quilting:

LOVE the quirky layout for her Birds:

She quilted it herself using her walking foot within the blocks...

... And free motion in the borders:

Cheryl and her DH are off to Italy, so Ella shared the foreign fabrics in her stash:

Dutch batik above, German print below:

Deborah showed the screen mesh Sprout Bag that she plans to replicate in cotton:

Not to be outdone, Ella had THIS bag...

... of scraps for Joy:

She also shared the pattern and fabrics for her next quilt:

She has made the quilt before.  SEE:

Ruth is back from Canada:

Sorry, Ruth!  I didn't seem to get a picture of what you were working on.  However, CLICK HERE for the answer to the question of if your grandson enjoyed the train trip in Canada:

Lunch found ALL of those assembled today down in Saxapahaw at the General Store for a wonderful selection of gourmet salads, sandwiches, and hammocks.  Hammocks?!  Yes, hammocks:

Six happy quilters pose for a photo after lunch:

The hammocks come in water resistant bags...

... Made from recycled materials:

HERE is the tag, in case you are inclined to buy one of your own:

THIS is how the hammock would hang from a tree:

After lunch, the quilters disbursed.  They were off to the four winds (or home!), but Joy stayed behind.  THIS is what came next...

Ella experimented with these fabrics to make two-color blades:

Dark blades:

Light blades:

Or yellow blades:

Joy cut MORE background pieces for her Barn Dance QAL:

HERE is Ella's choice:

With fabrics chosen and no more background fabric, Joy went home to sort scraps.  The beautiful batik shown below featured prominently in the scrap bag:

Until next time...
Sneak in some extra quilting time!!!
