Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!! This is our sixth week of ZoomBEE due to the ongoing our statewide shelter-in-place order because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks go out to Deborah, who served as administrator for today's virtual meeting. Thank you to this week's hostess, Maggie, who managed the proceedings nicely with our group of 15 quilters today. Last, but not least, a HUGE thank you to Dee Dee for sponsoring our Zoom membership for the next 2 months!!! Her generosity allowed us to have a 3-hour meeting with no "intermission" or need to log off and back on in order to continue. Thank you SEW much, Dee Dee!!!!
This week's group portrait, compliments of Jean:
Several members stepped up to Ruth's Disappearing 4-Patch (with a Twist) Challenge this week using this TUTORIAL or the INSTRUCTIONS can be found on the Shabby Fabric website:
For next week, Joy issued a challenge for everyone to make Candy's D4P (Click on the words to go to the tutorial!!)
Show and Tell...
Our editor had grocery duty, so was VERY late for the meeting. We have the following notes from Deborah with photos added once Joy arrived. (Thanks, Deborah! I appreciate the teamwork!)
Linda H: Working from home. Made masks for a student’s family. Both parents have jobs, but jobs did not provide masks. Linda also made an extra mask for the student. Linda officially applied for her retirement….big day is June 30th!
Deborah: D4P block completed.
Made masks for hair dresser and family. They wanted gray, black and white…no colors.
Carol: D4P block completed. Carol is finding all sorts of treasures in her sewing room. She found a D4P block from long ago that she forgot she made!
DeeDee: Making good progress on Storm at Sea. Mentioned Lunsford strawberry patch on Hwy 86..open for pick up.
Lots of fun art quilts on design wall for inspiration.
Ruth S: Has been very productive. finished binding a quilt for Joanna, mailed 15 packages of masks to family and friends. Showed a stack and whack quilt (donation quilt), finished a baby quilt, and made the D4P block. Plans to return to the Bluff when the governor opens up the state…maybe mid May? (Sorry, Ruth! I caught you napping during the meeting. LOL!)
Candy: made a D4P using another pattern. Showed her wonderful modern fish wall hanging. Linda H had the perfect background fabric! Maggie suggested using small shirt buttons for bubbles.
Ella: shared a photo of the masks she’s making, Started a new donation quilt using the “Bonnie” pattern.
Cheryl K: started the D4P…showed us the oops…will try again. Wants to face time with Jean about paper piecing.
Joanna: started a stack and whack…on design wall ( or maybe that was stack and shift?)
Lynda Mac: working on bird quilt table runner…Dusty the dog joined us today.
Sorry to miss getting a photo, Lynda! :o((
** Joy joined in here!! Previous show and tell will be emailed or texted.
Jean: D4P block.
Was concerned that because the block wasn't perfect.
Jean also embroidered on a shirt.
Making mask. Starting a paper pieced Willie quilt using polygons.
All kinds of strange shaped are being included:
Recommended add a quarter ruler for paper piecing.
Gayle has been gardening and working on...
... Her Circle quilt:
Ruth B. made the 4-Patch portion of this week's D4P with a Twist:
... But wanted to make sure that her color choices were ok before continuing with the "twist" part of the process:
Maggie show us the D4P with a Twist block...
... And told the story of her collapsed ironing board:
She showed off the row that she finished from an old Row by Row:
Here is Maggie's new tabletop ironing surface:
Virtual Additions...
Joanna, the masked wonder, created a denim face mask using the zipper section of a pair of jeans:
Action shot included. LOL!!!
Deborah sent a better photo of her D4P with a Twist block...
... And masks for her hairdresser and family. They wanted gray, black, and white. No other colors:
Candy made her Colourwerx ModFish and Linda had the perfect backgound for them to swim in:
Oops! (Due to a misquote by Joy) she made a regular old Easy D4P:
Joy was late to the meeting...
... But showed off her 4.5" version of the D4P that she is using to create a Quilted Laptop Cover:
She also shared her little quilt called Bright Spot in Coronaville. It was made for Sarah's (Confessions of a Fabric Addict
) call for a Corona Quarantine Mini for Show Me the Mini:
Joy also showed these little bits from the baby quilt that she has been working on for her expectant niece:
This is the center that the bits came from. Thanks to Carol, who texted the photo she took when picking up her quilt:
Do you think something went wrong with the next set of letters for the baby quilt? Take a look:
Maggie sent a better picture of her row by row, unfortunately, you will have to adjust your screen or your head to view it properly:
Dee Dee shared her Storm at Sea project, reporting there are only 65 more of these units to make:
Britt missed the meeting, but reported that she had to step away from mask making for an evening and start a new landscape quilt:
Playing in her strings has been so therapeutic! Here's a closer look:
If YOU have anything to add from this meeting, please contact Joy.
Until next time...
