4/16/20 - CCLQ @ ZoomBEE - Week 5

Welcome to this week's meeting of the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters!!  This is our fifth week of ZoomBEE due to the ongoing our statewide shelter-in-place order because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Thanks go out to Deborah, who served as administrator for today's virtual meeting.  Thank you to this week's hostess, Ruth S. for making sure that everyone got a turn for Show and Tell.

This week's group photo from Jean:

It was suggested that we all wear MASKS for our next photo!!  LOL!

Show and Tell...

Ruth's strategy was calling on people as they appeared on her screen:

Deborah started us off with her Disappearing Hourglass block:

Maggie shared her latest block.  If you zoom in, you might be able to see the (subtle) pieced star in the center:

She made the additional blocks from last week and changed direction.  Added a border with a few partial blocks on black:

Here's a broader view of Maggie's completed quilt top:

Maggie shared some tips for Zoom meetings.  Notice the extra lighting which helps eliminate shadowing:

Jean reacts to...

... Candy sharing a photo of the selfie her Family House friend took wearing the mask that she made specifically with him in mind:

She told us that she has made about 90 masks:

Ella chose a fabric she loves...

... And found a coordinating print:

This is the somewhat less than successful block Ella made:

She discussed what she might change...

... And Britt offered suggestions:

Carol made this small wall hanging with half hexie blocks from MSQC that weren't working out the way she expected:

Carol is also working on some small Crazy Patch blocks:

Jean reported that she has made 200 masks and...

... Has a BIG box of scraps for Joy:

This is the center of Britt's THIRD Blooming 9-Patch quilt:

Cheryl K. makes a couple masks every day or so:

She's using T-shirt "yarn" for the ties:

Contact Cheryl K., if you would like to learn how to make some:

She also showed us the wall hanging she's working on:

Cheryl's table cloth with a pieced border:

Here is a better look at the bird fabric:

As she's made 40 masks, Britt shared tips for making the nose wires that some patterns require for face masks...

... Including the "hack" for using a box of jumbo paper clips and wire cutters, but I wasn't fast enough to get a photo:

Dee Dee has this rainbow beauty on her roll-out design wall...

... And this Storm at Sea on her stationary design wall.  Keep scrolling down the post for a better look at both of these:

Ella showed off her new haircut and told us about the hairdresser who came to her house.  People wondered what you might have to tip for that service:

Dee Dee shared a photo of her Charleston Azalea in full bloom:

Dee Dee is loving the play of light afforded by her new garden structure:

Gayle has made progress on her Circle quilt:

Dee Dee has made good use of the Christmas gift that Deborah made for each of us.  It helps keep small block parts together:

Someone inquired about the paper pinned to each fabric set.  Dee Dee showed the folded pattern for her paper piecing:

Joanna shared this block made playing with scraps...

... Stonehenge, of course:

Gayle looks on, as...

... Joanna showed a set...

... of blocks...

... Made from...

... From the book Stack, Shuffle, and Slide by Karla Alexander:

Ruth B. has been a bit distracted.  She made a few pressing mistakes, adhered her interfacing to her pressing cloth and sewing two sides backwards:

Gayle is making progress on her Circle quilt:

This closer view show how she manages to keep everything in the proper position on the design wall... Post-it notes:

Gayle brought out the Sulky product that she uses:

She is thoroughly enjoying working with these fabrics:

Ruth S. cleaned out closets and has bags and bags of stuff for Durham Rescue Mission.  She made masks for her family and shared the Disappearing 4-Patch...

... That she made and suggested that we all might like to make them for a group donation quilt:

Deborah shared the sweet thank you note that she received from her grandson for the Bunnies that she made and sent for Easter:

Joy is on the other side of the camera:

Cheryl K. showed the specifics of her latest mask...

... And demonstrated how to wear the "halter-type" face mask:

It fits really well when using a nose wire:

Virtual Additions...

Dee Dee sent photos of her roll-down design wall:

Her stationary design wall:

And a look at how she keeps all those little pieces in order:

Joy shared her "Fabric Test" mug rugs for her niece...

... Along with this week's Project QUILTING Q.2 challenge:

She also showed the beginning of her Monday Mini:

Pattern Links...

Deborah's Disappearing Hourglass from MSQC.

Ella's D4P from a tutorial from Shabby Fabrics.

There is a similar tutorial from What Comes Next? blog.  Ruth S. mentioned that everyone could make them in GREEN and another color (she suggested yellow) to contribute to a group donation quilt (or two!) depending on how many blocks we get.

Here is the block Ella shared the last time we were together, in person, at Deboroah's house last month:

Ella suggested that we have a sew day to make some
quilts using this pattern.

Please contact the editor, if any email or texted photos were not included in this post!!  My sincere apologies, in advance.

Until next time...
