9/23/20 - CCLQ in the Wild - BIG Birthday Surprise!

Welcome to another edition of CCLQ in the Wild!! This week, our roving reporter is here to reveal a (hastily planned) gathering of NINE quilters.  These CCLQ members were spotted in Durham at a special Treyburn birthday surprise.

Happy 80th Birthday, Joanna!!!

Cheryl K. had suggested that we make quilted cards for our birthday girl.  Based on Joanna's response to the paper-turned card that Ruth S. mailed down last month, Joy thought that was a brilliant suggestion.  Candy recommended that we each take photos to share on the blog.

Here are the gifts from the quilters...

Maggie let the fabric do all the work!  :o))

Joy delivered a (quilted) Birthday Cake inspired by Sara Ruiz Quilts.

Carol used her embroidery machine to stitch out her pretty purple greeting.

Dee Dee stamped and stitched this beautiful butterfly card.

Jean used a piece of her antique "cutter" quilt from a friend...

... And "helped" Willie make a card for Joanna, too.

Candy had some super strippy fun creating her 1st quilted postcard ever!

Ruth S. created this butterfly bouquet.

Deborah spoke of the bird lover in her, straight to the bird lover in our birthday girl with this sweet hummingbird.

Britt created this lovely abstract landscape.

All will go on this message board specially made by Linda.

The beautiful fabric covered buttons were provided by Deborah.

As if our quilted cards weren't a big enough surprise, Candy arranged a "window visit" birthday party for Joanna...

Maggie donned her darling birthday hat.

Waiting for the receptionist.

Candy passed out birthday signs.

We set out on our trip around the building.

Oh!  Here's your sign.

Hmm... This milk crate could be useful.

It was SEW perfect for a selfie an "us-ie"!!  :o))

Ella's "chauffer" was kind enough to take a photo of our little group.  (Thanks SEW much, Barry!)

(Once we located the right room) There was a lot of leaning in to see Joanna through the window.

We all held up our Happy Birthday signs.

There were a LOT of photos of reflections off the glass!

Maggie pieced together one of Joanna's works in progress.

Joanna made blocks similar to ones that Maggie had made.

Candy spoke with Joanna on the phone from outside.

Ruth brought a package of Two-Bite Cupcakes.

We all waited our turn to wave to Joanna.

Here we are singing the Happy Birthday song.

It was suggested that we are better quilters than singers.  LOL!!

Maggie showed Joanna the quilt top that she put together.

Joanna enjoyed and appreciated our visit!!

(Over the weekend) Ruth S. sent this glorious sunset photo, proclaiming it the BEST of the season.  It seemed appropriate to include, as our birthday girl said goodbye to another decade this week.  (Too bad we didn't have a sunrise photo to include, along with the sunset!)

Editor's Note:
My apologies to Deborah for previously miscrediting her hummingbird birthday card made for Joanna!!
I have corrected my error.
