Joanna had the yellow border ready and Maggie will add this brown border prior to quilting:

This will be the backing for the quilt:

Maggie is also working on a donation block quilt for Joy and showed the blocks on her design wall:

She plans to make star blocks for the bottom row with the following squares along with a piece of background fabric from her stash:

Prior to post time, Maggie had made progress and has the accent blocks and the bottom half of her quilt pieced:

Carol is also working on Joanna’s red, white and blue donation quilt.

Here is a look at more of the quilt:

This one gives a better look at the two-color prairie points surrounding the center of the quilt:

More on the LWR Mission Quilt project...

After Maggie and Carol shared their latest donation projects, Joy briefly explained the Lutheran World Relief donation effort.  It began when a fellow quilt blogger shared the story of last month's (August 2020) explosion in Beirut, Lebanon which destroyed goods ready for distribution to the needy, including personal care kits and quilts.  The following links give a clearer picture of how the project grew beyond Joy's wildest expectations:

From Joy...

A number of you have volunteered to help in a variety of ways.  Thank you SEW much!!  I was beginning to wonder how I would manage without reinforcements.  That is somewhat less of a concern, thanks to each of the following quilters:

Candy, Maggie, Linda, Ruth S., Deborah, Ruth B., and Ella

If YOU weren't at today's meeting, but would like to contribute in some way, please consider creating a 70" x 90" to 75" x 95" quilt backing for one of the 15+ quilts that will be made for donation.  This can be done with chunks of yardage sewn into a pieced backing, an extra piece of a wide backing fabric, or lengths of yardage.

Please keep these exclusions in mind as you choose fabrics...

NO religious symbols or messages.  (Crosses, Star of David, etc.)
Secular symbols are acceptable.  (Rabbits, eggs, and poinsettias.)

NO U.S. flag, patriotic or military symbols, or references to the armed forces, including camouflage.

Editor's Note...

Please contact Joy if you notice any additions or corrections that need to be made in today's post.  Thanks!

Until next time...
QUILT safely!!!
