5/30/2024 CCLQ Hosted by Linda

Welcome to the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters’ weekly meeting. This week quilters met at Passmore Center and Linda supplied a number of goodies for the Quilters to partake of.

Carol has another donation that sports polkadot centers and 10" scrappy logcabin'ish blocks.

Cheryl has got the California quilt ready for gifting on this upcoming trip.  The fabric colors and layout all came together so well.

Candy showed two quilts hot off Gayle's longarm.  The applique flowers in the center are a mystery but after she found them they sure look great with all the borders.  The Hastag quilt is a new favorite of Candy's and we probably will see it again in other colors.

Deedee got some Wonder Woman fabric and made a pillow case for a friends whose family and friends have been joking with her for years about Wonder Woman. The burito method and some french seams are a favorite for making pillow cases.  She also got the mystery slacks  that were missing for 3 years finally hemmed.  She shared that some using some fork pins helps to match seams intead of using 2 individual pins .... they do take getting use to (see link for image magic fork pins

Gayle reports she did do some painting on the Stary Night quilt top but has had a lot of yard work to do after 10 days away and being ill.  But back to normal.

Linda continues to go through boxes and found 2 of the same notion among the other hidden gems.  Candy said she would take The Angler 2 tool and try it out for sewing diagonal lines for either geese or half square triangles.

Maggie finished a quilt that will be going to one of her grand-nephew who is graduating High School next week.  She also showed a scrappy donation top.

Deborah told us she has started to put the doll pieces Deedee passed on last week together.  Given the Cicada season is winding down she was still wearing some custom cicada earings.  Cheryl passed on a quilters Cicada quilt done by Kathy Steere (link Kates Fun Art ).

Ella gave us some sad news about her brother's passing the day before.  We all send our deepest sympathy and want to support her in anyway we can.  She hopes to do some blocks using left over scraps from past projects. Carol explained her scrappy blocks are a variation on the logcabin and duckworth block (link blog article - duckworth pattern )  Duckworth refers to a quilters name....Jo Anne Merrill-Duckworth.  She is an amazing quilter in the group who makes almost exclusively scrappy wonky log cabin quilts.

That's it for this week.

5/23/24: CCLQ at Deborah’s

Welcome to the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters’ weekly meeting. This week quilters met at Deborah’s.

Ruth S sent this photo from The Bluff.  Ruth’s house is called the Tree House because it’s surrounded by so many trees. Ruth made this  beautiful tree quilt so the trees could come inside.

Candy decided to use her Round Robin blocks to make placemats.

Candy has finished two charming quilt tops for a friend’s daughters. This one was from a pattern by Suzy Quilts. Candy added a fun piano border.

Candy found this appliqué center block and added some fun borders for the second  quilt.

Linda installed this nice pegboard in her sewing room for the perfect storage system for rulers.

Linda reported that she’s continuing to make progress in her sewing spaces.

Carol reported that she had a fabulous time celebrating her grandson’s birthday. The Tuesday group provided a cute animal panel and Carol cut the critters out and appliquéd them onto a fun scrappy background. Great quilt Carol!

Carol shared this beautiful fabric which will be a baby quilt for a new grandchild.

Gayle shared stories of her cruise!  She’s already booked a cruise for next year.

DeeDee found several UFO cat blocks and is making more to make a fun donation quilt.

DeeDee found a box of doll parts made by her mother.

This was the pattern for Hattie the Hat Maker doll by Elinor Peace Bailey. It was featured in a 1992 Crafts Magazine.

These fabrics were in the box.

This collection of hat pins and doll needles was neatly folded up in a paper towel in the box.  The box was given to Deborah who plans to make a doll for her granddaughter .

Lynda reported that she’s been gardening, reading, and research her family history on Ancestry.com. The blogger apologizes for not getting a photo of Lynda.

Cheryl made four placemats for the Meals on Wheels program.

Cheryl also finished some microwave bowl holders for a friend in California.

Deborah shared stories of a long weekend in the NC Mountains. She stopped at a rest area near Wilkesboro and found these maps of Barn Quilt Trails for area counties.

Several books were recommended during bee:

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult
Blue Marlin by Lee Smith

Until next time, happy quilting!

5/16/2024 CCLQ @ Lynda's

Welcome to the Cherry Creek Lane Quilters meeting at Lynda's home.
We were a small group that enjoyed the birds and flowers outside around the home before getting down to business.

Deedee started us off with a floor canvas she unearthed in her sewing room while the rearranging is going on.  It wasn't determined the year this was done but it was agreed it needed to stay unrolled and out for display.  She also talked about a visit to the SAQA show that she is sharing a link for the photo's once the cloud Album is done.

Ella has been in the sewing room and found more of Barry's treasured tops that she will bring next week (didn't want to overwhelm the group).

Linda shared a 1965 kodachrome photo of her in Easter dress complete with gloves.  Last week was the discussion of gloves we all remembered from when we were growing up.  She has moved on from fabric storage to sewing room cutting table organizing to include a Pegboard installation that is going to require a second set of hands to get attached to the wall.

Maggie had some finished tote bags and all though 6-8 wide bottoms would work best.

Cheryl is back from a trip where she saw lots of flowers and birds. Including a Flame azalea, Saw Whet Owl, and Scarlet Tananger (bright red) who showed up when she whistled for him.  Good trip even without a view of the Borealis lights ... but got some good fog instead.

Lynda is still basking in a wonderful Mother's day.  She got some new plants for the garden and got to help Britt with gardening her plants from Prairie Moon.  They had the best time potting away so the plants would be mobile for finding the best location permanent planting.

Ruth S. the "Remote/Virtual" Quilter ... sent us a photo of what she is up to this week .... these colorful placemats.

That's all the show-n-tell for this week.

Keep Busy and Stay Happy!

DeeDee shows Cheryl the collection of rulers available. Cheryl took home 3 yards of Kona cotton.

More stuff!  Lots of patterns and books were also on the table.

Cheryl was so happy to share this amazing quilt made for her friend in California. It’s a big queen sized quilt and Britt will quilt it for her.

Lynda told of her recent vacation to the Outer Banks.

Carol shared this beautiful scrap quilt made with the scraps given to her by Susan Buehler. Carol plans to add a white border and this will be a cheerful donation quilt.

Maggie attended the Salisbury Quilt Show last weekend and brought back lots of goodies.

Cool fabric!

Sample page from the Quick and Easy Quilt Book.  Maggie used this new method to make these “on point” blocks.

Clever table runner with floppy flying geese.

Maggie made this fun gift bag for the NC State Baby Quilt.  She will email the directions for making this bag as it was a much easier method.

Inside of the bag!

More fun fabric from the quilt show.

Linda reported that she’s making progress on the Round Robin quilt.  Linda also showed this wonderful quilting T-shirt.

Ella brought a treasure of nine beautiful quilt tops and some ready to quilt pieces made by Barry. Quilters volunteered to take a quilt and finish it.  Ella wants to donate these quilts.

DeeDee has continued to work on tidying up her sewing room. She found these magazine pictures of modern looking quilts from the 60’s or 70’s?

1957 McCalls publication

DeeDee shared this beautiful sampler quilt made by her mother. DeeDee’s mom made the top and Sarah Porrecca quilted it.

DeeDee’s mom used markers to draw this creative label on the quilt.

DeeDee shared this sweet scrappy quilt.  The quilt hanging on the fireplace was made by Maggie for the craft show.  DeeDee fell in love with this quilt and purchased it.

DeeDee made this spectacular quilt.  It was quilted by Joanna.

DeeDee shared this lovely scrap quilt which was quilted by Sarah Porrecca.

Deborah has been busy following the 13 year cicadas. She’s been documenting these colorful creatures using the Cicada Safari app.  Cheryl mentioned that many folks are also using the iNaturalist app to take photos of cicadas and send them in. Expect a cicada quilt to emerge in the future.

Until next time, happy quilting!
